After my less than spectacular experiences with this earlier today, I was going to switch to English Breakfast, but I decided to give it ONE more chance. Taking a suggestion from Cofftea, I let it steep for 6 minutes and made it with steamed milk and honey. So much better than earlier. I actually really enjoy this tea when made like this. The spice level holds up well with the milk and it still has a very strong black tea taste.

Thanks Cofftea!! Because of you, this tea has earned a slightly higher rating…I love a good chai.

Third infusion of my chai/vanilla black blend. It is a really light honey color this time and while it tastes better than the last infusion (probably due to the longer steep time) it is still pretty light tasting. I guess three infusions is all this blend can handle. My rating will stay the same because this infusion actually tastes pretty good, just light.

This tea is not consistent for me. I’ll have it once and it is great, the next time it tastes weak or unbalanced. I steeped this second infusion of the chai/vanilla black blend for a bit longer and it is still weak. After this, I will try for a third infusion, if it is not what I am looking for, the rating will be dropped.

Try shaking the container before each time you take out some tea to steep. 3.5 min is quite weak for my personall preference so maybe try closer to 5? Depending on how you drink it, you may even want to go to 6 min. If I add milk or creamer to my chai I always steep it for 6. Hope this helps! It’s so sad to have chai that isn’t good:(

I know, I absolutely love chai. Looking back over my tealog, I realized that I have always just steeped this tea for 3-4 minutes. I will definately try steeping it longer, I really want to love this tea…just haven’t gotten the formula right.

I have the same problem, tried shaking the container and steeping it longer.. just made an overpowering bitter flavor..

any other ideas?

I’m starting my day with this. I added 2 tsp chai to 1 tsp vanilla black tea and I think that the vanilla black really helps to even out the spices. I added a bit of honey and it tastes great. Next infusion I will add a bit of steamed milk also. I think this tea has earned a couple more rating points because of the smoothness I’m getting today.

Nice fourth infusion made with honey and vanilla creamer. I wonder how many infusions I could get out of this…

Drinking a third infusion with the vanilla creamer. Still good, but I think I should have let it steep for a bit longer.

I had this again but made it with vanilla creamer instead of milk. It is so amazing. I will probably be drinking this alot. I have slightly raised my rating to reflect this new preparation.

I made this tea with rock sugar and milk. It wasn’t quite right so I added a little bit of honey and it was perfect. I think the milk just overpowers the rock sugar too much, I’m used to “traditional” English tea that is pretty sweet.

Okay, I’m trying this again. This time I added honey and just a tad of milk. Much, much better. I think last time I just used too much milk and the rock sugar wasn’t sweet enough to balance out the spice. I am adjusting my rating to reflect this… I’m sure glad I have this since I am running out of some of my other fave teas.

I tried this tea plain…it was good but very strong on the spice. That is a good thing, though, since it is a chai, maybe it will hold up to milk. So I tried it with rock sugar and milk, but I was slightly underwhelmed.

I am a former coffee drinker turned tea lover.

Black tea is probably my favorite type of tea, but I rather enjoy most types… I’m even developing a taste for pu-erh.

Rating Scale:
0-10: This tea is either flavorless or just plain undrinkable. I will avoid these teas in the future.

11-20: I was only able to make it through a few sips before pouring the tea out.

21-30: I may have been able to make it through the first cup but the thought of having another has me cringing.

31-40: Teas in this range are not horrible, but nothing I would seek out in the future.

41-60: Would drink if offered, but would not purchase for myself.

61-70: Okay, nothing special

71-80: Enjoyable, but I have to be in the mood for these. Probably would purchase if I found a really great price.

81-90: Pretty good tea, will probably be one of my favorites.

91-95: These teas are really excellent. I wouldn’t necessarily run out and buy more of these (just because there are so many teas out there that I haven’t tried), but I would miss this tea.

96-99: Terrific, very impressive.

100: This special rating is reserved for teas that are absolutely perfect in my opinion. I will only give out a rating of 100 to one tea per category (Earl Grey, unflavored black, dessert tea, Irish Breakfast, etc). These are teas that I really want to have around.

Perfect Teas so Far:

Earl Grey: Saint Isaac’s Blend (Russian Earl Grey) from Upton

Dessert Tea: Marco Polo from Mariage Freres

Unflavored Black: Emperor’s Red from Premium Steap
