6111 Tasting Notes

Review for the Dec 2019 reblend (newly opened!). I was very pleased with it – sweet, heat, chocolate, and it definitely reminded me of Frank’s version. Delicious! I think I drank it without milk, even though I’d initially planned to.

Well! Looks like I had missed recording that I drank this a couple months ago, so an unintentional repeat. But – a delicious one! Didn’t screw up the infusion this time and despite my previous comment that the coconut was going off, it was much less noticeable when brewed correctly. It was actually pretty good, and I could taste that mango! Still need to keep this one out to finish off sooner rather than later, though…

Weeeeelllll, I opened up this packet (from 2016 lol) tonight and to my sadness – sunflower seeds. Not super rancid, but rancid enough. I took ‘em out and brewed it up, and it just has that kind of playdoughy, plasticky taste, plus staleness. Happens with raspberry flavouring in particular, I’ve noticed, for whatever reason. Anyhow, not good, but I won’t hold it against this tea.

Yes indeed, another new packet opening! I assume this one must have been misplaced or something, because it’s a whole 2oz packet. From mid-2015, according to what I wrote on it. (I also have a small amount from 2021.)
Anyhow, considering its age, this is still pretty tasty. Yes, the flavour is muted, but it’s still fluffy and limey. Almost a bit of a pineapple flavour too, which is interesting.

Another new packet to open! The reblends often don’t taste quite the same as the originals, so I decided to indulge in opening a second package of this (from Feb 2019), even though I still have a 2oz packet from 2015 on the go. Haha. Anyways, this reblend is delicious. Creamy, toasty, pretty much the perfect marshmallow treat genmaicha. I’m pleased. Especially since I thought it smelled a bit strong on the marshmallow root, but that hasn’t affected the brew.
After being profoundly disappointed by my first Matcha Genmaicha, wasn’t sure I’d dare a flavored Gen Mai again. I think you may have convinced me otherwise!
Somehow this one always underwhelms me, even though the concept sounds so delicious! Of course now I feel the need to order some, just to give it another try. >.<
@NibbleGuru – I’m not sure if you tried one from 52teas, but IMO the original Marshmallow Treat is the best! Some of the flavoured ones haven’t really worked for me, but the toasty vanilla marshmallow is spot on.
@Cameron B. – I have had underwhelming cups of it before, and I believe Frank had a very disappointing reblend of it at one point, but this one was really good!!
