199 Tasting Notes
So, I first tried this tea in a Teavana store. I had a coupon for a free hot tea, so I tried this. The leaves smell of a wonderful concord grape, which I love! I had them brew it to my instructions (no sugar, 1tbsp/16oz) and it was like drinking warm grape juice with a mild oolong note at the end. I personally loved it then.
A few months later, I was in Teavana to purchase some of their “end of year” sale items and noticed that this tea was 75% off! I bought 8oz of it, thinking I would drink it quickly, but it definitely doesn’t taste like what I had in the store anymore.. Not sure why, but the grape flavor isn’t really noticeable and it’s just like drinking a low-quality oolong that makes you go “…meh.”
Flavors: Blueberry, Grapes
Preparation
This is a tea that I’m learning to love. The leaves have a very earthy scent with hints of smoke and roasting. It smells a little bit like a hojicha
—-edit, not sure where the rest of my review went?
The liquor is a medium amber color with a clean taste. It’s very mineral-y, but ends with a clean oolong finish that leaves you wanting more. It’s a complex cup but very relaxing and enjoyable. Future steeps reveal sweetness after the mineral taste dissipates.
Flavors: Earth, Mineral, Roasted, Smoke

One of the worst chai teas that I’ve had. There was way too much cinnamon and was very poorly balanced. Also, the price is quite high for a chai tea of this quality. The aroma was pleasing, even after brewing. It smelled like it should taste better than it did. Overall, I don’t recommend it.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Cloves, Nutmeg
Preparation
I feel like the version you get from Teavana differs a bit from the Starbucks version. The one at Starbucks I agree is way too overpowered by cinnamon, but the one I picked up at Teavana is so smooth and delicious. http://twilightlotusthoughts.blogspot.com/2015/08/tea-tea-bars-are-g-rated.html
With minimal caffeine, this tea wakes me up without the unnecessary kick. You can taste the cinnamon, lemongrass, and orange notes, but the papaya and pineapple fall short (which is fine, since that might make the tea unappealing to me). I typically do not brew this one twice, but the price is decent.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Lemongrass, Orange
Preparation
I love this tea, especially blended with Teavana’s Samurai Chai Mate. You can easily see and smell the spice combination of cloves, cinnamon, pepper, and nutmeg. My only issue is that the spices lose their individuality in the liquor and the tea tastes “one note” when it is not blended with another tea. Overall, a fantastic tea, but not quite worth the price.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Cloves, Pepper
Preparation
One of my favorite “tea bag” teas. This tea smells great and tastes of lemon and ginger without tasting artificial. I find it hard to realize that this is a green tea, since it doesn’t have the same delicate nature or taste as traditional green tea. It’s an okay value – considering I drink mostly loose-leaf, it’s hard to justify the price of the boxed brands.
Flavors: Ginger, Lemon, Peppermint
Preparation
This tea is light and floral. The pearls were nicely wound and were generally free of flaws. The aroma of the leaves is strong with the scent of jasmine. The liquor is light and is, again, strongly scented with jasmine. The taste is a light green tea with a strong jasmine taste – actually too strong, which is why it gets lower marks for flavor. Even with minimal steeping, the tea gets overly bitter from the overuse of jasmine; however, the flavor gets better with subsequent steeps
Flavors: Jasmine
Preparation
One of the first teas that I’ve ever had. Its aroma is of a light earl grey with a hint of citrus (not as much as a lady grey) and sweetness. I don’t taste the citrus in the brew, but the creaminess comes through and creates a smooth, refreshing liquor that does not need milk or sugar to enjoy. Definitely a favorite and relatively cheap for something from Teavana.
Flavors: Cream, Orange, Vanilla
Yikes! Eight ounces! You might try leafing it a bit heavier than normal. I’ve often found I need to with Teavana teas.
I can’t resist a good sale! And since I liked it so much (I would have rated it 90 at the initial taste), I thought it was worth it.
I hope you figure out a way to make it delicious, cause 8oz is a lot to get through.
