20 Tasting Notes
This is alright. It smells like hot apple cider, but it doesn’t really taste like it unless you steep it a long time. Note for those with Nut Allergies: I drank this with someone who has a nut allergy and she started itching with this tea. She is fine with the regular Twinings Chai though.
Surprisingly, I liked this. I do like Chai generally so I`ve been on the lookout for an caffeine-free version. Generally, this is the only chicory blend of tea that I`ve tried and liked. I add milk or condensed milk when brewing it. I can see why it would polarise people, but I work in an office where a lot of people also love this tea.
When living in the UK, I drank this tea every day. The bergamot is rather strong in this one so I do not let it steep for very long. I’m usually a long steeper by nature. It also tastes much better with hard water than the soft water I am living with now. For me, this is a standard that I can’t go wrong with even if it’s not the best Earl Grey in the world. I definitely prefer it over some of the other supermarket stuff. For the price, it’s good value.
Preparation
This is one of my favourite teas. I grew up drinking Chinese tea black and strong so I’m not always big on the floral/flower mixes (looking at you David’s Tea). I do love me a good chai, and this tea even with its lack of distinct spices, reminds me of it. It tastes wonderful with milk, but I’ll brew it strong hot and cold without anything. The saffron is light and so is the hint of orange. Wonderful tea. I’ve been trying to make mine last a long time because I no longer have access to it.
