I tasted the pyramid version.
I had only ever had loose leaf lemongrass ginger tea before I tasted Tea Forte’s pyramid version.
Both lemongrass and ginger in Tea Forte’s version tasted flat. It tasted like it had been sitting in the cupboard for some time.
Disappointing.

Paid HK$88 (roughly GBP7.5, USD11.5) for 125g loose leaf.
I will choose Twinings’ classic Earl Grey over Taylors’ any day.
Taylors’ Earl Grey tasted flat, the bergamot flavour tasted artificial, at least to me. I had to take this tea with sugar, couldn’t finish the cup plain black.

I will not re-purchase this tea. Actually it may take me a while just to finish this tin.

Note: I always make my tea in teapot. I put 240ml water at first steep, another 240ml second steep.

I bought this tea solely because of the company’s name and its story in history, knowing I might be disappointed. I was, very disappointed.
There was an unusual flavour in this tea that almost totally overpowered the bergamot flavour. I was not sure if that was because of the neroli they put in this tea.
Unlike Twinings’ classic Earl Grey, EIC’s could be easily burnt. The tea had this bitter aftertaste when I made with boiling water or when steeped for too long. I had to make a fresh pot with hot water 3min off boiler and steeped for only 3 minutes.
The bergamot flavour was totally gone at second steep.
I have to take this tea with milk, can’t finish a cup plain black.

Edit: The other day, after making a pot of tea, I looked closely at the tea leaves after the brew. I had to admit that EIC used higher grade tea leaves. The leaves were quite very big. But I still don’t like the flavors of this tea.

For the amount I paid (HKD103, roughly GBP9, USD13.5 for 200g), I think this is very good tea. I think it’s better than some of the more expensive ones from other brands. I also like it that I can make this tea without care and know that it will still taste good.
I am still very new to tea, I couldn’t tell if the bergamot fragrance was from real natural oil or artificial flavouring, but I loved it in this tea, I found it refreshing.
I can drink this any way, plain black, with only milk, with only sugar, or with both milk and sugar.
