I got this at Starbucks during my lunch break today and was pretty disappointed. The matcha tasted overly seaweedy and artificial to me. Now, I love roasted Japanese green teas that taste slightly seaweedy/fishy in a nice, roasted sort of way. This, however, seemed like a weirdly artificial, overly sweet, fresh seaweed. I’m not sure that this is making any sense, but bottom line, will not be ordering again.

They must put crack in the chocolate syrup at St*r$ucks. This was so much better than their normal chai latte! It’s like hot chocolate meets chai.

Hmm, maybe I should brew up chai and use it as the base for hot chocolate at home sometime. It will surely be cheaper and healthier… But I doubt it will taste better!

Sil

oh man i had this and it was waaaay too sweet. but i agree, much better than regular chai latte

Josie Jade

I broke down and had one of these the other day. So good!

Janefan

I actually made a serviceable approximation this morning by brewing a vanilla chai (actually a resteep of Vanilla Chai-Me from Vida pour Tea) and making it the base for hot chocolate (Whittard’s Caramel Hot Chocolate mix). I added a small spoonful of vanilla ice cream, in lieu of whipped cream or milk (I didn’t have either). It wasn’t “crack in a cup”, but it was still yummy.

It’s time for my morning cup of chai! I was all out of my regular chai concentrate mix, and I didn’t feel like running out to the store. I bought this chocolate chai concentrate as soon as it was released. I was super excited for it! After trying it once, I stuck it in the fridge and promptly forgot about it. Well, it’s time to drink and log it properly!

This one will not be replacing my regular chai. The chocolate is like chocolate syrup. It’s very thick and viscous and not at all like the regular chai mix. It just tastes weird and artificial to me. I feel like I’m drinking Hershey’s chocolate syrup with a kick of spice. Blech. That’s just not really my thing.

And to pour salt on the wound, this mix cost an extra $1 more than the regular chai mix. Now that may not sound like much, but it made me feel like I’m getting jipped. You can’t honestly tell me that it costs an extra $1 to add chocolate. I don’t know. Maybe I’m overreacting. But every dollar adds up over time!

This will not be a restock for me, and I think I may just pour out what’s left in the box. Since it’s premixed in liquid form, I can’t pass it along to someone who might enjoy it better. And that makes me sad. :(

Fjellrev

I’ve never bought any chai mixes before, let alone theirs, but now you have left me curious. I always imagine them to be super sweet. Do you find the regular one to be so?

CHAroma

It does have added sugar, but I don’t find it to be too sweet. It’s so spicy that the spice balances out the sugar, especially when you add milk. Try ordering the chai tea latte from Starbucks first. If you like it, then you know you’ll like the concentrate mix, which is a MUCH better value for your money.

Umm. I didn’t like this. At all. The peachy flavour is overly chemical to me, and it was way way way too sweet.

Of course I’m having a super horrid evening, and I’m also at the airport picking up a friends brother as distraction. So. My experience might be coloured negatively.

Sil

Doubt it…this one is way less delicious than passion tea lemonade"

OMGsrsly

True. I just wanted to try something new.

At least at the airport sbux they have salads and stuff not covered with crackers or croutons, so I was able to eat!

Am I really doing a tasting note for this? Heck yeah!

Soy, half base, no classic, green tea frappawhatsit. Not nearly as good as the matcha smoothies I make at home, but not a bad recovery drink after a poorly fueled 6 hour hike. I even got whipping cream.

My fiancee, friends, and I all went out to see the Rocky Horror Show yesterday. It was my first time seeing it live and it was amazing! The crew was fantastic and the opening band was very creepy cool. My favorite moment was when we all threw the toilet paper. That was something I always wanted to do, but would have gotten in trouble to actually do it.

Before the show I got a large latte to round out my meal so I wouldn’t be snacking when we got out of the show around 2 AM. It was so yummy. It filled me up for the rest of the night which makes me think that matcha would be the perfect tea for a person trying to diet. Between the regular and flavored matchas, it would satisfy every craving you might have. You would just have to be careful that you didn’t overdo it with the matcha lattes and have most of them without milk.

I got a green tea latte from Starbucks today. This is the straightest I have probably ever had matcha and I should probably be eating something with it because I’m getting a little caffeine headache. It tastes really good though and I’m taking it easy. I’m just not used to it.

After my test this morning I thought I’d grab something warm for the walk back to the train. It was entirely not worth it but the cashier was being a real you-know-what, and that’s something for another site LOL.

I was just feeling like chai and I needed an immediate fix. So in that case this wasn’t bad, it was nice to sip on it while I waited forever for the train, and it got me to thinking about the past.

When I lived in Tennessee, there was only one Starbucks for the longest time about 15 miles away, so obviously it wasn’t worth it and so when I went to NYC when I was 15 on a theatre trip, it was fascinating to see them EVERYWHERE. I had just been to Chicago a month earlier where my aunt took us to one, and she got me the Passion tea lemonade. One morning I got tea, not even sure what kind, but I felt very important in Rockefeller Center with my tea.

And time was probably the start of drinking tea, but just very on and off. There was always tea in the house but it wasn’t until a couple years ago that it was full blown.

But I didn’t even remember about that tea in NYC until I was drinking this today! Amusing.

aww thanks for sharing that story! :p

Ugh. Way too sweet. Why did I buy a carton of this concentrate? Going to try to make a chai muffin recipe I saw recently that calls for this sort of thing, just to use some up.

Tall, with 1 pump classic syrup and 1 pump vanilla syrup. (Its regularly made with 3 pumps classic). With a “outrageous oatmeal cookie” or whatever they call it, this really hit the spot as a pre-yoga snack!

Tall NF NC NW +2M +2P GLT w/ Whip + choc sprinkles… or so my cup says. In other words: tall non fat no classic no water 2 pump mocha 2 pump pepermint green tea latte w/ whip and chocolate sprinkles. I’ve actually had 3 of them since Sunday… yay! One of the girls I stayed w/ this week is a barista so she even made me one free. She tried it (due to allergies, the soy version), but said it was too sweet. But then again the soy milk is sweeter and she doesn’t even do mochas.

Tall 2 pump mocha 2 pump peppermint non fat no water green tea latte w/ whip and mocha drizzle. The only way I like a green tea latte… if only they wouldn’t sweeten the matcha! And it’d be a lot easier if they’d just put “Green Tea Peppermint Hot Chocolate” on the menu:) The barista I normally have is great though.

Sorry for the lack of posting, I have been insanely busy traveling for work and have not gotten to drink my usual amount of tea. While I hope to rectify that this weekend, I figured a little bit of Starbucks might hold me over. Instead of my usual coffee, I decided to be adventurous and try the Tazo Chai Tea Latte. As we know from my previous posts, my chai tea must be hot, with some sort of milk and sweetened. Assuming a latte incorporated these attributes (and not wanting to be too snarky so early in the morning with colleagues present) I ordered the latte straight off the menu with no adjustments.

Overall it was pretty good – the right amount of spice and artificial sweetness with some creamy smoothness and froth blending it all together. I am glad I have found something I can order right off of the menu that I actually like.

Please note, I am on my cellphone posting this, as I said traveling for work, and it will not let me go review and proof what I wrote or actually give the tea a rated score. Will rectify these issues later. Thanks!!

I had a treat receipt from ordering coffee this morning, and this has been something I’ve been trying to get the courage up to try. So I ordered it to drink on the way home from work as a treat. Unfortunately the tea flavor/matcha in this is the epitome of exactly what I don’t like in a green tea. I can’t get past the fresh hay flavor that this tea brings out. Leads me to think I really will not enjoy matcha, as this flavor/smell is something I just can’t do. Even the amount of sugar and whipped cream didn’t make it do able for me. My husband slurped it all up pretty quickly though :)

Cofftea

I can do matcha (LOVE it), but I don’t like it mixed w/ dairy. Although… I think it would be amazing as a blended iced green tea latte (half milk, half ice) w/ mocha and peppermint syrups so it’s kinda like a frozen matcha peppermint hot chocolate. Maybe Strawberry puree too? One thing is for sure, I don’t do classic syrup in anything.

Stephen Wise

This tastes like consumerism crap that just happens not to be my cup of tea – too much sugar mixed with the matcha they use. Very dry tasting, I thought.

Cofftea

AMEN STEPHEN! I don’t like dairy + matcha (unless it’s matcha drinking chocolate), but if you do, why can’t we get PURE matcha lattes? It bugs me when people automatically assume we want things sweetened (they do that w/ all their tea lattes- but not espresso ones oddly).

backlogging (this should actually have been my #250!)

I remembered people raving about this on here, and trying to recreate it (I even tried once, without having tasted the original) so when I found myself at Starbucks on a very hot day, I had to try it. With 2 pumps of sweetener (instead of their standard 4!) I found in lovely – a bit sweet, followed by the sour pucker from the lemon and passionfruit. A great refreshing thirst quencher. I don’t love passionfruit, but it works here. I would order again.

So the lemonade is sweetened then they add extra classic on top of it? I order SBUX a lot but don’t really inquire as to how it’s made lol.

Janefan

Hmm, I don’t know if the lemonade is pre-sweetened or not. I guess it probably is? They asked if I wanted it unsweet or sweet, so I asked how many pumps of syrup normally go into the sweet, and decided to get half. Here’s the online menu description and stats for “Tazo® Shaken Iced Passion Tea Lemonade” http://www.starbucks.com/menu/drinks/tazo-tea/shaken-iced-passion-tea-lemonade?foodZone=9999

Cofftea

Yeah unsweetened would just be lemon water, wouldn’t it? lol!
