Grande (16oz) no-water soy chai latte from concentrate
prepared in store
(I am going to start logging all teas i drink to see how much I really drink instead of just new ones)
This is my new summer drink from Starbucks. I love getting a grande coffee frap, with 2 pumps of the chai concentrate. Tastes like heaven and gets me going during the afternoon slump.
I like also adding mocha, vanilla, and caramel syrups. I also prefer blended lattes vs. frappuccinos…. although I’m not sold on either yet when I want chai since I don’t like their concentrate. I wish there was a way to use loose leaf- or at least a powdered mix.
Wow, interesting idea. I usually can’t do anything sweeter than an iced americano with no sweetener ;) But I am intrigued.
“I usually can’t do anything sweeter than an iced americano with no sweetener” which isn’t sweetened at all. Funny:)
Exactly. The other day I wound up really enjoying Honest Tea’s bottled iced teas though and was surprised to notice that the variety I was drinking had agave nectar in it. And the one I have in the fridge has honey. Huh! Guess I can’t write off sweetener in iced teas!
I only like sweeteners that add flavor (i.e. maple sugar in maple tea, chai flavored honey). These syrups would also qualify (although I do not like the chai concentrate)… but then again something like mocha syrup is normally so rich it’s not very sweet (I like dark chocolate anyway) and caramel syrups have savory qualities due to the caramelized sugar.
With the new Starbucks Frappuccino mix, this drink has gone from okay to awesome. Ask for extra matcha. Try with soy if you want another sugar kick, as well.
had it with 2 shots of syrup instead of the standard 3 ( I asked the barista how much they usually put in). She also confirmed that it’s plain syprup, not the melon, which is discontinued. I also got whipped cream b/c I like the texture it adds, but did cut down the amount. Shouldn’t have gotten the grande… maybe too much sugar? An hour later I have a stomach ache. Next time I’ll ask for only one shot. Or better yet, I’ll get real tea… This choice seemed like an indulgence at the time, but now seems more like masochism.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sugar fiend. The sweeter, the better, I usually say. But this drink is just nasty. I can’t detect anything remotely green tea-like in it!
I agree! Fake matcha is just nasty. And what the heck was up w/ the melon syrup they used to put in it- w/o telling us it was in there! Thank God that’s gone at least.
Yes! I’m really not a big fan of melon, so the addition of the melon syrup put me off this drink for life.
Don’t let that stop you from making your own matcha lattes/smoothies at home, you’re in the best place to do so!=D
I should, but I’m hesitant to buy non-bottled tea here since I can’t read the labels and I have no idea what I’m buying, lol!
This is one of my favorite beverages at Starbucks. I have it pretty regularly and order it without sweetener (they use melon flavored syrup to sweeten it—up to 5 pumps in a Venti! Blech. It ruins the flavor instead of enhancing it). Lately, I’ve been having this made with soymilk.
It tastes like green tea ice cream, to me.
I love green tea ice cream.
Personally, I find this stuff to be a crime against matcha. The one you can get in Japan is a bit better than the US one, as it is less sweet. However, all the cream and such just is not necessary. The one I got in the US actually made me feel sick.
Unless you have a serious sweet tooth, I would suggest you avoid this. If you want a matcha dessert, add the powder to some fairly plain ice cream or yogurt instead. You can even buy some decent matcha ice creams that maintain the bitter but tasty matcha flavor.
Haha, I love this one! I like the strawberry blended creme a lot better though. If you are looking for matcha, this definitely isn’t the drink to go for. I usually only drink this during the summers.
