This tea was a Mother’s Day gift from my daughter who lives with us, who shall henceforth be referred to as “AliasHali.” I also got a tea from 52teas that I have already finished. Ha ha!
I saved this one to drink with a friend who comes over for tea. She only drinks green or white teas and prefers flavored ones, and I like having something new for her to try.
I have not had acai before that I recall so it was with trepidation that I made this. I thought it might be quite sharp and tart, like hibiscus, and we don’t ever add milk or sugar to our tea. They call it a superfood, so I thought it might be super tart.
What a delight! This is a beautiful white peony base. I showed it to AliasHali before she left for work and she asked if I were “sure those weren’t raked out of the yard?” That was literally my thought the first time I ever had shou mei. It looked like soft, dry, broken leaves raked in fall, and I loved the taste so who cares how different they look? No, this is a nice white peony base and I am sure of it.
The aroma was nice with rich berry scent, not overly strong, but not really giving a hint as to tartness. Here we go….
Hooray! For the first sip was so lovely! It triggered a memory and I am pretty that was jam – specifically Four Fruits jam from Bonne Maman. It isn’t at all tart, just lovely rounded natural tasting berry flavor.
This is light. It is not wimpy or underflavored. I just want to emphasize that it is not smack you in the face, smash your face in jam, taste it for the next week flavor. This is light, fresh, delightful, and I am going to take their advice and try it iced as well because I think it will be a very refreshing summer tea. YUM!
What tea is good for a grief filled heart? I picked this one from the wall of tea in Ft Collins. It’s good one. I’m on the second steeping and it’s still chocolatey and rich. Not too complex, but a very good example of Keemun.
My cousin passed away yesterday after a lengthy hospital stay fighting cancer and pneumonia. She was 53. Life is short. Hug your peeps and drink the good tea.
I always like stopping at this tea house. Highly recommend the atmosphere and people.
Flavors: Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Nutty, Smooth
Consider yourself hugged long distance. It sounds like you’ve picked a good cup to hold in your hands while you remember your cousin.
April Sipdown Challenge Prompt – your tea with the longest name
At present I don’t have much tea with long names as I am mostly out of Teavivre Tea which reliably had really long ones, and now I don’t want to order more for fear of somehow ending up paying tariffs and duties above the price. The teas I want are not in the US warehouse at present.
Back to this tea – in Chinese, “Scary Fragrance” is Xia Sha Ren Xiang, referring to Bi Luo Chun, so I assume one would add Hong to that to represent this tea. That’s my story and I am sticking to it.
Scary is not the word for this. This is a Golden Snail tea, so powerful aroma is more apt. My goodness, I swooned. First, this is a beautiful tea to look at in dry form. Little gold and brown snails, tightly curled. Slightly fuzzy. Already fragrant.
Steeped, it is a beautiful medium amber to orange that doesn’t reveal just how much flavor there is in the cup. The mouthfeel is thick and rich. I made two Western steeps yesterday and saved the leaves in the fridge for breakfast today.
The first two steeps had honey notes and were a little reminiscent of Golden Monkey. There was some chocolate in the aroma as well. They describe it as having squash notes, but as someone who grew up on yellow crookneck squash only and had other squash only after reaching adulthood, I would say it is more like zucchini that I note here.
Today’s steep was very good but much milder. One thing that really persisted was the creaminess of the mouthfeel.
A delightful tea experience.
From the name, I thought this was a jasmine green tea and chose it to fulfill the soothing tea prompt for the Sipdown Challenge, but I have to replace it with another because it is definitely not a jasmine green, although something this delicious is also soothing.
This is a mix of lychee black tea, oolong tea, and jasmine flowers with jasmine green tea. The taste is predominantly lychee in my opinion, it resteeps well and is certainly a delightful tea that I would put on a repurchase list.
I may have overleafed the last of my small pack, but there is an astringent taste after the blueberry, lemon, and ginger that is a bit too harsh for my liking. I like the idea of this tea more than the actual tea.
Flavors: Astringent, Bitter, Blueberry, Ginger, Lemon
Sipdown
We started the day with a big pot of this tea for breakfast, sans additions. Afterwards we were sitting outside just enjoying the weather after all the rain and I made another big pot. It started getting rather cool before we finished it and we were running out of tea drinking steam. The cooler tea had a bit of an edge to it that wasn’t there hot, so I decided to add simple syrup to what remained and put it in the freezer to get cold in time to have it as a sweet tea for lunch.
The tea starting freezing at the sides of the mason jar much faster than I expected so I ended up having a tea slushy and it was so good that I plan to do again in the future!
This is nice and fruity and the ginger keeps it from being a “candy” tea. It was very fresh tasting hot and very refreshing and enjoyable cold.
Sounds lovely! I saw a seasonal blueberry lemon Häagen-Dazs flavor at the supermarket yesterday and was tempted ha ha.
That sounds good! I eat far too much ice cream, but most of it is homemade. I do love some Häagen-Daz, though. There are a few Godivas I will never turn down, too.
I remember decades ago discovering what is still a favorite combination of mine: Banana Pecan, which was one of the 31 featured by a local ice cream parlor. Haven’t seen it in years. My #2 fave (B&J’s Pistachio Pistachio) seems to have become rare, too. Maybe a home icecream maker will be the best solution for my sweet tooth!
My husband adores pistachio ice cream as well. I tend to go for the coffee, even better if it has chocolate too! :D
March 1 Sipdown Challenge Prompt – World Music Therapy Day
The name of the tea shop prompted me to choose the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. It was a good choice!
My daughter is surprising me with a new tea each day post-surgery. This one was needed today as the antibiotics are making my tummy a little queasy and I am hoping the ginger will help, and the song went well with it for a nice cheering effect.
This was perfectly fruity and the ginger was just right for me. Blueberry is the number one star here but on the back of the sip I am getting a nice warm flush of ginger warmth that is not too hot for me. I really like the black tea base, too.
I’ve never knowingly had acai either and am also wary of “superfoods.” Glad it exceeded expectations!
