Glenburn Estate Darjeeling from Butiki Teas is a prime example of a quality first flush Darjeeling. If you are like me and generally prefer second flush you should still give this one a try, because it is worth it to have one of the best first flush Darjeeling’s as a tea lover and connoisseur.
The flavor notes are so laid back, mellow, but absolutely present. I love the light juicy sweet peach notes, the light lilting floral flavor, and that ever so subtle touch of ginger, which I pick up more in the aroma than the flavor but again, the flavor is there. I even get a honey aroma and note on the palate.
This has made it to my shopping list.

For some reason I got pear when I tried mine. Mind you it was mixed with mango and cilantro LOL
Indigobloom-I’m pretty sure we tried the Glenburn Moonlight as the base. This one is a little different. :)
still a touch early for first flush isn’t it? I believe all 1st Flush Darjeelings are harvested in March and unless you have a direct connection to the estate and are willing to pay a premium, the tea wouldn’t hit foreign shores till April
kashyap, it’s probably a 2012 tea
good likelihood that the ‘mellow’ flavors are due to is age then…but still a notable tea if the honey is lingering….the floral distinction and grape has probably dissipated
This tea was harvested March 14, 2012. We do deal directly with Glenburn’s reps. The new First Flush will likely be in April since we do not pre-order as we like to sample first. This was a pretty mellow tea to begin with and the estate’s most expensive first flush.
