This tea is kind of crazy. If you have an aversion to spicy things… DON’T go here!
First of all, like some other David’s Teas I was happy that this doesn’t taste artificial at all. A black tea with pumpkin and spices. Nom. I’ve always liked pumpkin flavored things. When I was a kid I looked forward to the pumpkin flavored ice cream that Baskin & Robbins would put out every year.
This is definitely pumpkin-y, but I felt it was a lot better after sugar and soymilk was added. Then the mystery ingredient… I kept noticing how spicy this was in the finish and how “peppery” it seemed to me. Nobody said anything about pepper when I was at the DT store.
I looked the mystery ingredient up on their website? Garam Masala?!? Whoa. That is a bold choice and definitely not for the meek. So I’d say this really seems like a pumpkin curry tea and is definitely not for wimps. I happen to like garam masala in food but I’m not quite sure what I think of it in the tea. I wasn’t really expecting such a spicy tea. I can see how this would be good for colder weather, or to chase off the gloom. I think I need to try it at least once more before giving it a rating and I might steep it for less than 5 minutes next go around, it seems very intense but I have a turmeric tea that I enjoy a lot.

Does the garam masala make it taste on the savoury side? I’d imagine a pumpkin curry with brown basmati rice would be epic.
It does seem sort of savory in my opinion. I definitely got pepper, also an incredible stomach ache :(
Sorry about the stomach ache. I like garahm masala on fruit salad. I was introduced to this while trying more risky street food in Delhi, ( Chat, and the fruit salad). They were only risky because of the potential of contact with contaminated water. I was OK.

boychik, let me know if you want a sample ;)
Huh interesting. I just had this, and while I get lots of spices, my cup didn’t have any spicy heat to it at all. I steeped it for four minutes.
