Although listed as a green, this reminded me more of a roasted oolong in the way it smelled and tasted. The dry leaf smelled a bit like chocolate. The infusion had that roasted tea smell and taste which was the dominant taste note for me.

This was a very pleasant morning tea. I enjoyed it a lot.

This was part of the September subscription from Teacha. The 1 tsp actually refers to 1 teabag.

The dry buds smelled quite strongly of rose. It reminded me of some rose scented soaps. However, once steeped the scent was much more mild and not cloying. Overall, I enjoyed this more than I expected given my reaction to previous tisanes. This wasn’t bad bud it had a thin mouthfeel. Overall it was ok but not something I’d go out of my way for.

I was hoping to like this much more than I did. The dry leaf and the infused liquor smelled strongly of vanilla but it felt like it lacked something. Although it was not at all bitter my guess is that adding a bit of sugar would complement the vanilla. It probably wouldn’t take much and would make it more satisfying. I’ll likely give that a try the next time I try this.

I’ve never had maté before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I probably wouldn’t have had it yet if it hadn’t come as part of the Teacha subscription.

I sniffed the dry tea and jumped back about a foot since the first thing that came to mind was dirty socks. With some trepidation I steeped it according to the recommendation and was greeted with more dirty sock aroma. My spouse who normally at least tries these things with me told me I was on my own.

To my surprise, while hot, the taste was milder than the smell but as it cooled the taste got stronger and, alas, I was unable to finish it.

This one was just a bit too vegetal for me. I enjoyed it but not quite so much as I’d hoped.

I did three infusions of roughly 30-35 seconds each. The liquor was light and aromatic but mostly all I could get from it was the spinachy vegetal taste and aroma. If you like that then then you’ll really enjoy this green tea. If it isn’t then perhaps not so much.

We visited my sister over the weekend and I took the last of the sampler packs of this with me. We ended up drinking around a dozen infusions of this over the course of the afternoon and evening while playing games.

I kept all the infusions on the shorter side to avoid getting bitter and that worked out well though a couple came out a bit weak but even those were enjoyable, especially as the tea cooled.

Strangely, the peach and ginger combined to have something of a minty aroma when dry, at least on first impression.

I did two infusions, the first for 3 minutes and the second for 5 minutes. The first tended more towards ginger and the second more toward peach. While this was refreshing and left my mouth feeling surprisingly clean it didn’t really satisfy me. I haven’t really preferred most flavored teas so don’t let my lack of enthusiasm steer you away. It was decent and certainly quite drinkable, just not something I could get especially excited about.

This was the last of the samples sent to me by a kind steepster. Smells great but the tannins quickly overwhelm my tastebuds. Fortunately, a bit of honey tames the Jabberwocky making a nice Saturday morning cup.

I’m afraid the black tea tannins pretty much mask the other tastes and smells or my olfactory and taste systems just aren’t that subtle. However, this was enjoyable. I could easily see myself sipping this on a cold winter morning. Even on this not quite chilly Saturday morning it’s a nice warming cup.

This was another black tea sample sent to me by a kind steepster. My first round with all these samples was to err on the weaker side in the hopes of avoiding the need for sweetener but that was not to be here. Sugar was needed but the tea was quite enjoyable.

It may be that for my black tea pick-me-up in the morning that sugar or honey stays part of the routine. That’s ok though. Most of the time black tea is a breakfast thing for me.
