Sorry, guys, I thought this one was awful. Very woody and sour, though perhaps slightly a higher quality than the woody sour I’m used to from red rooibos. The vanilla is present, but more an aroma than a flavor. I couldn’t finish this one.

As with most of the Palais des Thes teas I’ve tried, this one is mildly flavored, fairly light, and generally likeable. I don’t get any bitterness from this, but I also don’t get any real floral notes. (For me, that is a good thing, as I’m just not into floral teas.) I mostly taste blueberry and smooth tea that does have an astringent note in the finish. It’s nothing spectacular, and yet I really like it. It would be a lovely tea with some shortbread.

This is a nice solid Earl Grey. The tea is smooth, the balance is right, and I think it’s a tea that most people could enjoy. The bergamot is just a touch sharp for me, but it’s not bothersomely so. I got this as a sample, and if I liked Earl Greys more, I’d buy more – but they’re not often my cup of tea. :)

Very nice, “solid” tea. I would actually love a little more blackberry, but I can definitely taste it and I do get a hint of buttery pastry, too. The base is smooth and strong. This makes a really nice morning tea. I do like it better with a little sugar or sweetener, but it just needs a touch to bring out the berry.

drank Almond Oolong by Adagio Teas

It does taste like the label declares, both almond and oolong. And as others have noted, it is almond that tastes like almond, not like cherries. (I’m another one who often has that flavor mixup.) It also comes across as being very sweet, even when I haven’t sweetened it, so it’s more of a marzipan almond than a nutty almond to me. My difficulty with this one is that there’s nothing subtle about it at all, and although I like strong flavors, I’m not sure I want either almond or oolong to be that strong. The flavors also don’t quite meld right for me. There’s nothing wrong with this tea, and it is exactly what they advertise it as, but I just don’t love it.

Flavors: Almond, Marzipan

I notoriously dislike pu’erh tea, so I was leary – but I love chocolate and orange together. I really enjoyed this – it was rich and actually chocolaty, with the definite orange peel flavor. I saw someone compare it to the chocolate covered orange peel candy (which my son always gets me for every birthday because he knows I like it and he won’t steal that one), and I’d agree. It definitely is the drink version of that. It is earthy but pleasantly so, and definitely dark chocolate as opposed to milk or cocoa. I did pick out some of the chocolate chips from the steeping basket and put them directly in my cup. Added some rock sugar and this was enough to get me to avoid the chocolate doughnuts on the counter. (But now the tea is gone, and the doughnuts are not…)

Flavors: Dark Chocolate, Earth, Orange Zest

drank Strawberry Sundae by 52teas

I really want to like this one, but I just don’t. The first time I made it following the recommended directions RE amount (plus a bit extra), time, and temperature, and it just tasted like vaguely floral boiled water. I made it again, using 3x the recommended amount, and it still tasted like boiled water. It did have more fragrance this time, and I could get strawberry from it and yes, maybe a bit of ice cream. This just really didn’t do it for me, though.

Enjoyed this after a stressful Saturday (hey, I’m a mom, Saturdays aren’t days off!). It is definitely cozy and relaxing! The chocolate and vanilla notes are definitely present, and I think the hazelnut probably contributes to the chocolaty “feel.” I am not aware of any flavor from the orange peel, but I’m sure it’s contributing to the background flavor. It’s just a touch flat tasting – in all likelihood, the problem suffered by most decaf teas in my experience – but still delicious and comforting. I added a fair amount of sugar to this – I don’t think you need to do that, but it just was the mood I was in. I’d like to try this one as a latte!

The fragrance on this is just amazing – luscious orange and spices, in a nice balance with each other. Unfortunately, the flavor falls a little short. It’s still good, but not as divine as promised. I don’t get any vanilla from this, and the tea base is a bit musty or earthy for these flavors. Again, it’s still good – maybe the fragrance was just so wonderful that I am let down by a perfectly adequate flavor.

That always sucks when a tea smells out of this world but falls flat in flavour!

Yummy! It is a little weak for me (they recommend 1.5 tsp for 16 oz, but I find it only medium strength with 2 tsp for 12 oz). But it has an absolutely delicious fragrance that is absolutely true to its name. There isn’t a ton of caramel flavor but I think it’s just enough to take the edge off any possible sourness. It’s very easy to drink and cozy, but I have to hide it from my son!

Bio

Wife, mom of 2 crazy young kids (and 3 cats, if they count). Used to be a professional tree hugger, now I stay at home hobbit-like and teach the kids to love the trees. Also hobbit-like, I love reading, tea, second breakfasts, cooking and food in general, and gardens. (I can’t really say I love gardening since where I live, it’s too dratted hot for too much of the year to actually do it.) I am always on the search for a good flavored decaf black tea. Suggestions are more than welcome!

I tend to like my teas strong, so I use more than most people when I brew. Don’t be put off a tea because I say I used 4 tsp to brew 12 oz or something – that’s just me.

PS – Unlike a hobbit, my toes are not furry. I just feel the need to clarify.
