drank Morning Sun by Mandala Tea
359 tasting notes

Thanks you Dexter3657 for this special offering…

First, I do realize I a m drinking Morning Sun at night. Well, I checked and I couldn’t find any Evening Moon in my cupboard…besides, nothing stipulates that it should be drunk only in the morning, right?

The leaves are so pretty, they look like sunny little spirals. I basket brewed for only 3 min. as I watched and smelled the beautiful golden liquid, I knew it was enough. I’m usually a heavy steeper, but this tea is quite potent.

It may sound a little weird, but I get the sharpness of green peppers in this tea. But it’s also sweet and slightly woodsy. It feels thick and dusty in the mouth, it’s kind of hard to explain. I also get something reminiscent of a baked potato peel, earthy and roasted. I like it a lot. It has floral notes to top it all. It does have similarities to some Golden Monkey I’ve had, but I find this to be more complex.

Most of the time, I don’t re-steep black teas unless I gongfu brew. But this one had a lot more to give, the leaves were not fully unfurled, I managed to get three very tasty infusions.

So glad I made this part of my recent Mandala order, I know I have many more cups to come, and yes, will be able to experience the joy of having it in the morning!

Thanks Dexter3657 for another tasty treat :-)

Now the tea gods will curse you for drinking a morning tea at night!

TheTeaFairy

Haha! I know, was so afraid of that…jeez, what’s a tea god curse, 7 years of bad tea???

keychange

It’s ok—it’s always morning somewhere!

Fjellrev

Hahaha just stay away from Teavana and I’m sure you’ll avoid the bad tea issue.

TheTeaFairy

Lol, keychange, we used to say the opposite back in the days when we’d start drinking again at 10am after a sleepless night, those were the days. OMG the thought of it now makes me sick, I’m so old!!!!!

Fjellrev, staying away from Teavana is very easy, haha!

I love this one. Yum! It’s that green chile element that keeps me coming back, so unique and sounds weird for tea, but tastes good!

TheTeaFairy

Oh, ifjuly, green chilli is even more precise, lol! I’ve only had red chillis, so I woudn’t know, are they spicy?
To me the green bell pepper came to mind because the tea might be sweet but it also has that sharpness and freshness found in green peppers. Isn’t it hard to explain? I just know it’s there, lol.

Profile

Bio

I am French Canadian, so please forgive me if my English is not always perfect :-/

My relationship with tea in a nutshell:

I’m married to straight Black. I have torrid love affairs with Oolong and Puerh. I party with Green and White occasionally. Flavored are not my BFF, I usually stay away from them.

Love Steepster, a place for tea lovers, where you learn and share with others.

About me:

I am a free spirit, I let people be who they are and expect the same in return.

Books! I love classic literature, but also modern and pretty much anything that captures my attention.

Music is also something I can’t live without… From Bach to Nirvana, my ears know no boundaries…

Animal and nature lover, amateur photographer.

I’ve been drinking tea for as long as I can remember.

Drinking tea is a sensorial experience. The name in itself “Camellia Sinensis” lingers the promess of an adventure for the senses…

Not a big «swapper», but will occasionally. Not because I don’t want to share but because I’m trying not to hoard so much.

Also, I have narrowed down the teas I really like over the years, and I don’t feel the need to try and buy everything the way I used to. (Maybe I have become a tea snob? Sigh…)

My ratings: because I pretty much drink only teas that I judge exceptional, my ratings are usually high. Don’t be shocked to see lots of 90’s and a few 100’s. That’s because I’ve had my share of crapy teas and I’m done with that ;-)

You can find me on Instagram here, I post about my tea sessions mostly, but also about the beautiful nature that surrounds me, and my fury companions :-)
