drank Pumpkin Spice by Harney & Sons
694 tasting notes

I almost bought a tin of this tea this fall when I was really wanting pumpkin spice tea. I am pretty glad I didn’t. A friend of mine is starting to get into tea and I was digging through his tiny stash and came upon a tin of this. I grabbed a sachet and attempted to brew a cup. I definitely didn’t pay attention to how I was brewing it and didn’t know the water to tea bag ratio so take this review with a grain of salt, but for me it was just a nice spiced tea. There were hints of cinnamon, and I could tell it was rooibos, but pumpkin didn’t scream out at me like I would like it too. Glad I got to try it, and glad I didn’t purchase a tin.

Hey Steepster, it has been awhile!

This is one of the first cups of tea I have had in oh 3 months, and it taste oh so good. Today was a rainy cold day and a cup of tea finally sounded like just the thing to warm me up from the inside out. My husband and I found out we were expecting kiddo 2 back in November and the wonderful morning sickness really screwed with my taste buds. The idea of drinking a cup of tea had me running for the hills.

This tea is as good as I remember it! I can’t put words to it tonight, but I am going to miss this one. I think there is another ounce in my Butiki order, but if not this may be one of my last cups:( Oh so yummy on a dreary night!

Butiki Teas

Oh man, now that I saw your review I just have to do a gongfu session with this. Mmmmm.

TeaTiff

Oh man, now you have me running to see if I have enough for gongfu. I am not sure that I have ever had this gongfu!

Butiki Teas

TeaTiff-It’s really good gongfu. I use a small gaiwan, so that I don’t have to use so much leaf. :)

Congrats !

TeaTiff, What will you do when your TWMB is gone? Has anyone found a suitable replacement for it?

TheTeaFairy

Welcome back and congrats :-)

looseTman

+1 Congrats on kiddo 2!

TeaTiff

Thanks guys! I am not sure about a replacement for this tea. Has anyone compared this with teas from Taiwan Tea Crafts?

TippysTea

We are working on acquiring some of this tea.

TeaTiff

Oh yay! I will have to keep an eye out. I was just eyeing some of your blends. I love mint and GM so I was instantly interested in the Minted Monkey.

I ordered a bunch of caffeine free blends from Verdant. Some I was brave and ordered 2oz of, this one I wasn’t sure about, but man this is good! The smell in the bag still had me questioning this one. This is a tea you definately don’t want to smell before making. It was way too strong and smell alone I would not have picked this one up. Brewed. This is soo cozy. I can’t tell you what it taste like. The blend just works. Its comforting, warming and delicious. I am glad I picked this one up. It was a last minute add in and now I am wishing I had added a bit more. Oh well. It will be a nice cozy tea while it is here.

TeaNecromancer

Cozy is a good word for this tea

This is a sample from Angel at Teavivre. Thank you!

I was not in the mood for rooibos or chamomile, but wanted something soft and soothing. I thought a cup of this would be a good choice and I was correct. This tea is magical. I have had a few silver needle teas before Teavivre, but nothing had come close to this. This cup was sweet and creamy. There were hints of melon, and hay. This tea had more depth to it than I would expect in a white tea. I mentioned creaminess before but this texture in the tea blew me away. It made it different than any other silver needle I have had before. Definitely a great cup! I am glad I still have some more of this to enjoy. This will be going on the wish list. Thanks again for the opportunity to try this tea.

After reading Charissa’s note on this yesterday I pulled it out for the afternoon cup. This is sooo yummy and comforting on a fall day. I am glad I let this be over the summer so that I could enjoy it during the cooler days! Roasty flavor mixed with deep dark chocolate. I left the leaves in the fridge at work hoping to enjoy a few more resteeps tomorrow morning. Roasted tea + already steeped tea equals really low caffeine right? Well at least that is what I am going to tell myself.

Charissa

I just had another cup this morning. A delicious way to start the day!

1 Year on Steepster! Woot! Who would have thunk. 418 tasting notes…. 170ish teas in cupboard, many fun swaps and tea friends. It has been quite the year. I have enjoyed getting to try so many wonderful cups and tea vendors. Hopefully Steepster fully recovers from its illness and it is exploding with liveliness again soon. My tastes have definitely changed. I like many on here started out with the mostly food teas from Teaavana. Quickly found Butiki and fell in love with so many teas there, found oolongs, roasted and milk oolongs, discovered flavored blacks, then straight black. Now, I am starting to explore whites, greens and pur-eh. I think my favorites are the darker side of oolongs, the Fijian blacks, and french flavored teas. There are so many teas I still want to try and orders I want to place. It is fun that after spending a year trying “everything” there is still so much more to try.

I am trying to make a decision on whether to purchase this tea or not. I believe it is only available until the end of October. This morning at work this cup is offering all the same, smoke, tart fruity, leather if you will, but there is almost a spice to to the tea. It is lovely, but will it be a cup I like 4.4oz of? Thank you again boychik for this sample

Nattie

Happy 1st birthday!

boychik

happy 1st bday! wishing you discovering more great teas. Do i see Wuyi oolongs on a horizon?

donkeyteaarrrraugh

Happy 1 year! I still have a few months to go for that landmark! congrats!

TeaTiff

Thanks you guys! Boychik, wuyi is growing on me. I need to experiment with gongfu for the ones I own. I own 2 or 3 right now and will be brewing them gongfu to see if they start to grow on me:)

boychik

i find some very good ones fr Jing Tea Shop and Tao Tea Leaf. the best way for me is gongfu. 5-6g leaves 100ml and short steeps. im off to have some now ;)

TeaTiff

I have never heard of JIng Tea Shop. I will have to check them out. Thanks Boychik!

drank Jasmine Snow Dragon by Shang Tea
694 tasting notes

My new openness to jasmine lead me to buy a sample pack of this when I was in Sheng’s last. I followed the instructions on the sample pack and I probably should have just ignored them. This is a very strong Jasmine. I steeped 3.5g in 8oz of water for 1.5 mins. That was a little strong for me. The next infusion was much nicer I did the same but only steeped for 30 seconds. This was a sweet jasmine tea, but not as sweet as I have had in the past. I like this, but I think I have enjoyed a few others a bit more.

donkeyteaarrrraugh

how did you ease yourself into jasmine? it’s always been a bit too cloying and floral for me….

TeaTiff

Teavivr’e Peach Jasmine Pearls and Steepster Jasmine pearls. I have been needing something light in the afternoons and had these sitting around and game them a try. I don’t steep as long, it keeps some of the strongness of the floral out. I also had a very OLD batch of Jasmine dragon perls from Teavana that had lost a tad bit of the jasmine. I definitely have to be in the mood.

This is another sample from boychik. Thank you!

Keemun might just be my favorite type of breakfast tea. It is usually deep and chocolate or slightly woody. This is another awesome offering from A & D. I think all of these samples have turned me into an A & D fan girl. I might just have to try EVERYTHING from them:) Some keemuns have fruity flavor at the end of the sip, some have a smoke. This is just right in the middle. It doesn’t have much fruity, but more of a deep bread flavor. I am rocking the 2nd steep already and this is definitely making my morning. Thanks again boychik for allowing me to try this one.

boychik

i can live without Keemun but this one i really like. glad you like it ;)

donkeyteaarrrraugh

I’m a 2 tin girl on this one!

TeaTiff

Do you guys find this light? Do you use extra leaf?

boychik

I went back to my note. No more leaves but time 5min 45 sec. Second resteep was 15 min. Tell me if you get some saltiness

TeaTiff

I will have to give these parameters a try with the next cup. I will watch out for that salty note. Thanks Boychik.

This is a sample that was included with my last Yezi order. Thank you!

I am working from home today and after my wonderful experience with Mandala’s Fancy Big Red Robe I wanted to try another version today gong fu style. I think the difference between last nights teas and today’s tea is the roast level. I think I was drinking a darker roast last night that brought out more of the malt/chocolate notes. This is more of a peachy fruity flavor. What I did learn today is that I do not like the first 2-3 infusions of DHP. Once the leaves opened up I fell in love though. The bitter quasi roast flavor went away and the it became a beautiful juicy oolong which is a completely different experience than I I have ever had with a wester style DHP. More exploration is needed, but I this was a great tea to sip on this afternoon.

EDIT: Umteen infusions later I am back to the roasty side of this oolong, although a much nicer roast, not with hints of bitter. This has been a really nice experience.

This is a sample from boychik. Thank you!

Damn! I thought by trying this tea I would rule out having to purchase this one. No such luck. This is good. How does Damn Fine Teas do it? This tea has a little smoke, it has some woody accents, then there is a little bit of tart fruit, and smooth astringency. Are those last two things even possible in a blend? Sure seems to be what I am tasting. This is another wonderful fall cup. Now to buy or not to buy the tin……

Bio

I started drinking tea while on a 4 month long cycling trip through South America. It seemed to always be a great way to warm up when I was cold and it was always available everywhere. Mate was the big tea of choice down there and it was also a great way to get to know people. When I returned home, my sister introduced me to Teavana and this launched me into the realm of loose leaf tea.
