So, I am trying my best to sip down old tea. I found this in my tea drawer at work. I think it was from a BrewteallySweet tea stash sale. Yep, it is old and yet it is still really good. I am sure it is not as good as it once was, but me being the green tea noob it doesn’t take much to fool me.

This is slightly sweet with hints of green bean and other yummy green vegetables. My first infusion I did for 30s in hopes of not destroying the tea. I think I will add quite a bit more time to my next infusion to step it up a notch. This makes me want to try more green tea. Yum.

EDIT: Yep I ruined it. Second infusion was bitter. I let it steep too long. Green tea hates me. I need to buy some cheap dragon well one of these days and just play. I like the taste of it, but I always end up making it bitter.

Received this as part of a straight tea package from LP. Thank you!

My package arrived today with part of a YS order and part mystery tea. I really like getting mystery tea in the mail. It makes me go outside of my comfort zone and try things I normally wouldn’t order for myself. I really need to just sign up for a tea subscription somewhere so that I am forced to not pick the same old same old. Maybe once my stash is under control. Does that ever happen?

This is a wonderful tea. Light, sweet, buttery…. oh yeah buttery. I didn’t have enough for a full on gong fu session so I have been having fun just playing with this tea. Add some water here, taste it, add more time, add more water. I havent’ done that much with tea, always thinking I will destory it. This is fun and delicious. I am excited. My husband and I have a date to finish reading The Martian together tonight. Such nerds. Go to bed early to read. Oh well it is the little things in life right? Books and tea. An end to a good day.

Rasseru

books and tea. such a good partnership

Marzipan

Do you read the same book at the same time, or two of the book side by side?

mrs.stenhouse12

Awe reading books together, especially the same book, sounds so sweet :) sounds like a wonderful evening!

keychange

Aww, my husband and I read this book together too!

TeaTiff

We rarely read the same books so when we do, we try to each read our own copy at the same time. He reads at lightening speed compared to me:) I think the last book prior to this that we read together was Unbroken.

I am doing my best to clear out some of my older teas. This is one of my oldest left in my collection. When I first bought it, I didn’t much care for it. Now I have started to enjoy DHP oolongs and so I have been sipping on this in the evenings. This is nice. Deep charcoal/ coacoa notes. As the brews go on there is a slight juicy taste mixed with some mineraly-ness. Not my favorite, but enjoyable.

drank Baked Ali Shan by Butiki Teas
694 tasting notes

I am slowly making it through my rose infected Butiki teas to see which ones are drinkable and which ones just need to be pitched :(. This one has been slightly infected, but however it was affected still tastes nice. I have no idea of the tea I am drinking tastes anything like it use to, but it is decent. SIlky, floral, green oolongy. It is a very smooth tea. I enjoyed this tea all day long. I just kept steeping and steeping the leaves.

How did they become rose infected?

TeaTiff

I bought a bunch of Butiki teas before they went out of business, but at the time I was pregnant with my son and not drinking tea. When the teas arrived I stashed the box away and forgot about it for awhile. I had ordered several different teas including the Champagne & Rose Cream. This tea infected the rest with its strong smell.

drank Caramel by Kusmi Tea
694 tasting notes

I received some of this tea from QueenOfTarts in her stash sale. Thank you!

I really really really want to like Kusmi teas. I am not sure why, the tins maybe? I had Russian Breakfast #24 a long while ago and loved it so I have been trying some of their Russian flavored teas every since. Nothing has really hit me as that great. This one is the same and I think it is because I just do not like the base tea. This is another base that just taste like cardboard to me and because I don’t like the base whatever flavor is on top of it just gets jumbled up. Oh well. It is always good to find teas I do not care for. I am glad I got to try this one at least. I am still curious if I still like Russian Morning #24 or if it was just because I had just started drinking tea. Hopefully I will get to try that one again.

This is another tea from QueanOfTarts stash sale. Thank you!.

I made this last night latte style. It was delicious. I didn’t realize before I made it that it has all the goods already in the blend, sugar & cream. It was very sweet and very minty. I got to enjoy dessert! Nice. I love mint in tea and this was just wonderful.

drank Kolkata Street Chai by Teabox

I received a sample of this from DonkeyTiera. Thank you.

Wow this is a serious chai. No joking around with this brew. If this doesn’t get you going in the morning I am not sure what would. This is like mud. Holy cow that was a brew. It was a good chai, but I think it might be a tad strong in the tea department for me. I would have liked a ligher brew with more on the spice front. Thank you for sharing this one. I always love trying different chai!

This was an extra that Queen of Tarts threw in with the items I purchased from here. Thank you!

This is my first tea from the new company and I am actually really excited to get to try one of them. The black tea base that Frank used really turned me off to the teas. I could taste nothing but cardboard in any of the black teas. It overpowered all the flavors that were suppose to be there and so I ended up not liking a lot of the teas.

This new tea. Wow!!! It tastes exactly as advertised in my opinion. I get a fairly strong banana flavor, I can imagine the nuts peaking out in the bread as you bite into a piece dripping with butter. I have one more cups worth left and I think I will take it home this weekend to doctor up with a little milk and sugar. I think I might just have to try a few more of the new 52 teas.

drank Passage by August Uncommon Tea

I received a few cups of this from Queen of Tarts in her stash sale. Thank you!

OMG yum! This taste like I am drinking a fancy pants hot chocolate. Creamy, marshmellowy, milk chocolate, with slight taste of burnt sugar. It also reminds me of eating s’mores. Yummy! So I might just have to put in an order for other samples:)

So what varietal of tea is this. Is this a Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong, I think I have seen it referred to as a non smokey Lapsong Souchong? I love this tea. I have been pulling it out when I have been craving a cup of hot chocolate lately. I could seriously drink this all day long. I am down to my last cup. I know that this year the rains have effected this type of tea, but hoping to find something that somewhat replaces it for a little while.

keychange

Hmmm, a non smokey lapsang…I didn’t even know that was a thing!

ashmanra

Keychange: I know, right? I thought Lapsang MEANT smoky, though I knew souchong referred to the size of the leaf and they are usually the fifth to seventh leaf on a limb. But I bought the non-smoky Lapsang souchong from Teavivre and it is really good!

TeaTiff

Yes, I was the same I always thought LP was a smokey tea, until I tried the Joseph Wesley version. It was unsmpoked and really good. @ashmanra – Did you try the Lapsang Souchong Wild Black Tea from Teavivre?

Bio

I started drinking tea while on a 4 month long cycling trip through South America. It seemed to always be a great way to warm up when I was cold and it was always available everywhere. Mate was the big tea of choice down there and it was also a great way to get to know people. When I returned home, my sister introduced me to Teavana and this launched me into the realm of loose leaf tea.
