When I discovered this tea (well.. technically it’s not the tea, it’s tisane), I had no idea what was it going to taste like. I was attracted by its really big whole leaves. So I brewed it first and discovered the it to be plain and simple. The tea is astringent, though not puckeringly, and modestly “sweet”. I tried mix it with another tea—green, chamomile, licorice, etc, and that extends the value, as does reusing the leaves once. The taste of jiaogulan itself is little grassy, earthy and wet. But it’sooo refrreshing. For me, when I initially drink jiag, it has an immediate calming effect. It’s slightly stronger than chamomile. I also notice that it has a mood stabilizing effect on me. If I take it regularly (3 cups/day, 1 tsp jiag per cup 10 mins brewed), for about 3 days, I notice that it makes me sleep ealier in the day, and I wake up feeling more refreshed.
