737 Tasting Notes
I’ve only had one other Silver Needle before this one. It was Harney & Sons’ Silver Needle. It was back when I first got into tea, and all I noticed was that it tasted strongly of hay. xD Which disappointed me at first because everyone always seemed to love silver needle, and I just didn’t get it.
I really wanted to like it. I love how it looks and how soft and fuzzy it feels. It’s just one of those teas that I just want to feel because it’s just that soft. If I were a bug, I’d totally want to make my home in this tea because it would be so comfy…
Okay, that’s kinda weird I realize…Sorry ‘bout that…
Anywho, this tea surprised me, while it still has that tea flavor, it also has like a natural sweetener in it. The sweetness of this tea distracts from the strong hay flavor. Not bad but not something I’d buy tons of. Definitely willing to try other silver needles in the future. Probably just won’t go out of my way to buy some.
Hmm expected it to be more chocolate-y. But I definitely still enjoyed it. It’s nutty with hints of cocoa. Kinda similar to the Chocolate Genmaicha in my book.
Not too inspired for much today thanks to yet again, family drama.
But it was a nice cup of tea for today. (:
Flavors: Cocoa, Roasted Nuts
I still need to try this one at some point… I’m not surprised to hear it’s similar to the genmaicha, considering it’s the base tea. Sounds yummy.
So this is exactly what I assumed black teas tasted like before Virginia sent me some from Tealux that proved me wrong. Just woodsy.
I literally feel like I went outside, peeled some bark off a tree and steeped it in my tea. Then added a pinch of sugar to make it “drinkable”.
Just..no…please no. I don’t understand the appeal in pure woodsy teas. xD
This is gonna go in the swap box. xD
Flavors: Wood
This was the tea that got motivated me the most to order from Simpson & Vail.
Anything with the word “cookie” in it has my attention.
The smell of this tea first made me skeptical because it didn’t smell very “cookie-y” when I opened the bag. But as it steeped it began to smell more like a sugar cookie.
The taste was pretty buttery, which is usually a big aspect of a sugar cookie. Sometimes buttery tastes in teas don’t sit well with me, but in dessert teas it’s heavenly! You can definitely taste the almond too which is an excellent combo to the butter. It definitely lives up to it’s name but I don’t think any sugar cookie tea can ever beat, Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride. :P
I would have fully enjoyed this cup of tea if I hadn’t gotten randomly sick again, but I definitely will when I drink it in the future! It’s worth trying if you ever order from Simpson & Vail! (:
I’ve never had a Roasted Dong Ding Oolong before. I always see them on websites but I figure I have enough roasted oolongs as it is.
Since this was a sample option I figured now would be a good time to try.
Even though it was expected I still felt glad to see/taste that this one wasn’t floral or vegetable at all! XD Definitely roasty!
Since I haven’t had many other Dong Ding Oolongs to compare it to I can’t really rate it. It’s not bad. Definitely roast-y. Definitely my favorite out of the three samples.
Thanks so much for the free samples, Green Terrace Teas! ^^
So I know I started out with drinking oolongs wrong when i first got into tea. My dad has a worker in China who has stayed at our house a few times over the years. She always used to just put a bunch of tea leaves in her cup and then keep adding water. Over-steeping did not exist in her world. And neither did it in mine till I found this forum. xD
Sometimes I like to still be a bad tea drinker and drink tea like that, without a strainer. I’ve been tempted to do that with these Green Terrace Teas. They are too light for me it feels like. Perhaps I am used to drinking strong and sometimes bitter oolongs, so when I drink the vegetable, floral kinds they’re too light for me.
The steeping time on Steepster says a minute, but after doing it for a minute I wanted it to be stronger so I steeped it for a bit longer.
Was hoping for a stronger Li Shan like I’ve had in the past but like the other sample I tried it’s light and floral-y. I mean, it is a bit stronger than the other of course. But not strong enough for me I suppose.
I’m hard on teas. :P
Your method Is not silly at all Ost, I drink lots of green teas that way in a tall glass, and they don’t turn bitter. Some call this method “Laoshan style”. I learned how to do it a few years ago on Verdant’s website. You just refill when the glass gets 2/3 empty. It never fails, especially with Dragonwell. Someone told me recently they tried that method with almost all types of teas and it worked every time, with no bitterness. I have yet to try it with oolong, now you got me curious, I will try very soon and let you know :-)
TheTeaFairy, really? I feel like everyone actually pays attention to steeping times. Usually when I know I like an oolong tea I’ll just put the leaves in and drink it like that. But since I joined here I feel like it’s not a good thing haha
Good to know that I’m not the only person that does it that way though!
This tea is absolute perfection! I just love it so so much!
I got a sample of this in a swap last week which I had to try before I went to the Lupicia store. It was amazing. Tastes just like a cookie.
I can’t even describe how delicious this tea is.
It’s just the perfect dessert tea! :D
Flavors: Caramel, Cinnamon, Cookie
Hmmm… sounds lovely. Is the cinnamon pretty mild? Or is it cinnaBLARGH?
Also, I thought of you the other day b/c I was re-watching the Rifftrax Nat Geo specials. The bat one is funny no matter how many times I watch it! I made my boyfriend watch it too!
It’s pretty light cinnamon. I wouldn’t like it if it were too much. :P
Haha that’s awesome! I made my friend watch that one over this last weekend! :P Did your boyfriend like it??
He did! I didn’t make him watch the others yet. Those were ok, but the devil bat was the best, hands down. We were rolling!
How was your visit with your friend?
I was just gonna throw this sample in a swap box because it was green tea, but it smelled so good and sweet. It smelled like candy. Almost like a sharper version of Lupicia’s Melon Oolong. But no.
That was a mistake.
Time to abort mission.
The candy smell is so faint when you drink it. It’s like the green tea just takes over. Slightly sweet in the back of your throat, but just not enough. xD This is why I have trust issues with flavored Green Teas. xD
Finally getting around to trying these samples. Only took me forever. But I’m doin’ it!
I’ve always wanted to try a Four Seasons oolong. Teavana had one that I’d been interested in, but I didn’t wanna spent like 17 bucks on tea that I don’t even know I’ll like. xD
So when I saw that this Four Seasons was a sample I figured I’d try it, so I can maybe get an idea of what other Four Seasons oolongs might taste like…
I don’t know what I was expecting from this tea, but the initial veggie flavor didn’t really thrill me too much. But as I continued to drink a floral, almost jasmine taste came out. Which was quite nice.
I think I’m mainly just used to roasted oolongs than veggie/floral kind, so this one seemed weird to me. Glad I tried it though!
Thanks for the samples, Green Terrace Teas! :D
Flavors: Floral, Green, Jasmine, Perfume, Vegetal
I’m not a huge fan of white teas in general, though this one I do like because of the strength of the jasmine flavour. Maybe white tea just isn’t your thing.
I got a silver needle sample from Shang, I’ll have to try it today. :P
Christina- Maybe not, but I am open to trying more. Just won’t buy it willingly. I am not sure that I noticed a jasmine flavor in this tea though…weird..
Cameron B- Hopefully you enjoy it! (:
