9 Tasting Notes
I’m currently attempting to replace sugary sweet foods with dessert teas. I’m also trying to avoid sugar period, so I’m looking for unsweetened teas that I don’t need to sugar up (expect I might cave in to a little honey here and there) to enjoy. I decided to get the chocolate tea sampler box from Republic of Tea to give them a try for my dessert tea mission.
Of all the options in the box I was most excited to try this Coconut Cocoa – and it didn’t disappoint! I made a small cup (right around or slightly below 8 oz) with one tea bag, letting it steep for a little over 5 minutes using boiling water. I find I enjoy RoT much better with two bags and slightly longer steep times though.
The smell definitely is “malty” to me. I definitely tasted hints of coconut and chocolate, but the barley flavor won out, which wasn’t ideal but it didn’t suck either. Will definitely experiment with the other bags in my sampler box (maybe two to a cup next time) though I’m not sure if I’d buy this or use it as one of my go-to dessert teas.
Preparation
Made this mixed with some Peach Tranquility from Teavana. SO YUM. Tastes like a delicious fruity mix. This is one of my favorite combos any time of the day. Probably would be amazing as an iced mix too – may have to try that!

Preparation
Made this with Zingiber Ginger Coconut again. This time I dipped some Lorna Doone cookies in it. Dipping a Lorna Doone in this mix was the perfect thing to hit the spot and totally relax me this afternoon.
Now I’m excited to sample other cookie/biscuit and tea combinations! I can see the biscuit collection getting just as out of hand as the tea collection. My husband will be so happy lol!

Preparation
Going for a bit of a tropical adventure for my second cup of the day. Enter, Zingiber Ginger Coconut and Earl Grey Creme!
Used 2 tsp of Zingiber Ginger Coconut tea to just over 8 oz boiling water. Brewed for 3 minutes, then added Earl Grey Creme (1 tsp). Let brew another 3 minutes. Added a dash of vanilla coconut milk.
My cup smells of coconut with a hint of earl grey. This mix is creamy, tasting mostly of coconut with subtle hints of the early grey and vanilla. The tiniest bit of a ginger zip hits my mouth a few seconds after drinking. No unpleasant after taste or dry mouth feel. I’ve found from past adventures with mixing Earl Grey Creme that it does really well with other teas, especially fruity flavored ones. It’s a bit strong smelling, and I definitely think 1 tsp goes a long way with Earl Grey Creme. It also does best with a little something like sugar and/or creamer.
I am now totally in love with this mix and glad I tried it out. Also glad I have plenty of both of these teas on hand. I have a feeling this will be my morning mix for a while. I feel more alert and refreshed about halfway through this cup.
The only downside is that both of these teas have super small leaves. The single serve cup I used has a brewing basket with far too large holes for these two. Make sure to use a fine mesh strainer for this tea!

Preparation
Before I discovered my love of loose leaf tea, Traditional Medicinals was one of my favorite go-to bagged brews. Pregnancy spurred me into finding an affordable, easy to brew, but still tasty tea that would help support my body during such a hormonal time. Organic Pregnancy Tea has fit the bill!
I steep two bags to a cup for a stronger flavor. I use boiling hot water, cover my cup, and steep for at least 10 minutes, but not quite 15. I add about a half teaspoon of sugar to the cup as well.
The tea brews up a fairly dark brown color and is light and minty tasting. I don’t find this tea bitter or astringent like at all, which some of the bagged medicinal teas have issues with. This is a great morning and afternoon tea since the minty taste is quite refreshing. It does end with a bit of a dry mouth, but following up this cup with a glass of water is a good idea for pregnant ladies!
Not sure how much of an effect on my pregnancy or birth this tea has had or will have (baby is due in about 6 weeks!) but I’ve also not been consistent in drinking it. I may try to be better about having at least a cup a day until the end of the pregnancy now as a bit of an experiment!
Preparation
This is my favorite dessert tea. If I need a taste of chocolate that is warm, a bit spicy, and has a nice, thick mouth feel, this is my go to tea.
I brew this tea up with boiling water, 4 tsp to 16 ounces water. I let it steep a little extra time and always make sure my mug or cup is pre-warmed! I add about 1-2 tsp of Teavana’s White Gold Honey to the cup. That is what makes it a truly dessert like treat.
My first few cups of this tea I wasn’t sure about it – but I used too little tea and didn’t have the water hot enough. You really need to use a bit of extra tea and super hot water to get the best experience with this tea. I find drinking this after dinner feels luxurious and like I’m pampering myself – which leads to a relaxed mood and a good night of sleep!
