drank Slim and Slender by CitizenTea
1040 tasting notes

I don’t really believe in the health benefits claimed by “wellness” teas. I didn’t buy this to become slim and slender – I bought it because I used to like the one sold by Teaopia.
This blend is exactly as I remember it – so good.
I’m not even really sure how to describe it. A little fruity, a little medicinal, but really light and refreshing. It’s a pretty strange tea but for some reason I really like it. I wouldn’t drink it everyday, but it’s a really nice change from the heavier/darker teas that I normally drink. This one is a winner for me.

Evol Ving Ness

Is this the one with a mate base?

Dexter

It’s green mate and stuff. I put the ingredient list in the description.

Evol Ving Ness

Oops, sorry. Didn’t look. Thanks.

Evol Ving Ness

To access your description, I had to click on the edit page so it appears that I edited though I didn’t.

Evol Ving Ness

Initially, I thought that it was the same as Zen Tea’s, but I see that the ingredients are different. https://www.zentealife.com/collections/herb-fruit/products/herb-slim-slender

Dexter

Not sure – I blew the hard drive on my laptop, so just using my tablet until I can replace it. On my tablet it’s hard to copy/paste ingredient lists into the ingredient field so I just put it in the description. Please feel free to edit or move them. :)

Dexter

No it’s definitely different from the Zen Tea one.

Evol Ving Ness

yes, the zen tea one has liquorice in it. Hard to ignore that one.

TeaLady441

Dexter – I bought this one too, not because I believe in the magical properties of it (but hey, bonus if it works?) but because it sounded interesting. I really like it, but it IS a difficult one to describe… Still, I think my 50g will go fast!

I loved this tea when it was sold by Teaopia and I still love it. Trying to find a replacement is what lead me to Steepster. Lots of warm fuzzies associated with this tea. Really happy to have it back in my life.

OMG….. this tea wasn’t even in my cupboard. That means I haven’t updated it in forever. Shouldn’t really be surprised, the last tasting note I wrote was when I was in San Francisco -sorry Steepster I’ve been ignoring you.

This isn’t my favourite A&D blend but it’s nice. It’s a little too light and bright for me. Normally prefer something a little darker and smoother. Not getting much of the smoke that others are mentioning. I do think there is some fruity, grape something in here. For my tastes this is good not great.

Heh we miss you lady!

Having issues entering a tea on my tablet, so this is just getting posted here.

I’m in San Fransisco and spent a frusterating day trying to buy tea in China Town. On the way back to the hotel I stopped at Imperial Tea Court and finally got some real tea, served correctly, from polite knowledgeable staff.
I spent a pleasant hour drinking an aged wild tree shou. Pretty earthy, some fermentation, but all in all a decent shou. Ended up buying an oz of several blacks.
I was in several tea stores today and this was by the the best experience. If in SF, worth a visit.

Sil

glad you’re finding some fun while you’re out there, even if there are some less than fun things :(

Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong is one of my favorite black teas. This one, while a little unusual, is really good.
A little lighter than what I’m used to, not as dark, not as rich but still has a really nice mouth feel. The malt and chocolate notes are present, there is definitely a starchy sweet potato thing happening but there is also some fruit – plum maybe. It’s really fruity for a ZSXZ.
This has made me very happy today. :)

drank Hot Chocolate by DAVIDsTEA
1040 tasting notes

I really like this – it’s very similar to Coffee pu’erh – take out coffee insert chocolate but the base and the texture are very similar.
Nice chocolate pu’erh. Really works for me.
Add a little chocolate cherry Baileys and it’s even better…..

Sil you know I love you. I absolutely adore all the amazing care packages you send me. I may not like every tea that you send, but it’s always an interesting experience, and quite often I find some hidden gems that I wouldn’t have chosen for myself. Thank you for being an amazing tea friend – but……

This is the most vile tea I’ve ever tasted. Buckley’s cough syrup is better than this. OMG it is so camphor, medicinal, icky.
Tea in easy gaiwan – rinse – sniff – ewww camphor – scared.
flash steep – sniff – maybe if I rinsed again…
two more rinses and another flash steep – hold your breath and try it. Nope ewwww Buckley’s.
This went on through a gazillion steeps and 1.5 litres of water. I sniffed and sipped occasionally though this process, but nope couldn’t do it. I could not even contemplate drinking a cup of this. WORST TEA EVER

Sorry ….. I’m going to let this go and choose something else…..

MadHatterTeaDrunk

Sounds interesting.

Sil

bwahahahahahahahahaha I’m laughing so hard right now

Sil

I’m sorry it wasn’t for you but now you know! :) besides, it’s like all that EG people send me!

KiwiDelight

Your Instagram posts were mysterious, then I read this. Sorry you had such a bad experience :[

Sometimes having a really bad tea is like a little victory for the tea budget. Now you can cross it off the “must have” list forever!

mrmopar

I will dispose of it properly in a way you will never see it again. This is a free service for all who wish to dispose of any puerh deemed undrinkable.

Hahaha. :D I have totally done that with teas, Dex. And now I’m curious. I have a sample of this one somewhere…

drank Jin Jun Mei by O5 Tea
1040 tasting notes

This is just flat – boring. JinJunMei should be bold with lots of interesting nuances. Not this one – just one note. For a relatively expensive black tea, it really was definitely disappointing. I’ve had lots of much better JinJunMei that weren’t this expensive.

2016 Sheng Olympics

Since I enjoyed the Whispering Sunshine yesterday, I thought I should move right into Hidden Song today.
This is very similar to Whispering Sunshine, but I do feel that it is more sheng and less white. If you drew a line between aged white and sheng – this would still be on the white side of the line but closer to sheng than the other one.
It’s pretty sweet, fruity, but it’s sharper (?) – not bitter, not astringent – but the notes are higher (brassier). What I’m not getting is the veggies – lots of others have commented on asparagus, greens, edamame – savoy – vegital. I didn’t find that – I got more fruit.
What I didn’t find in either of these was the earthiness – part of me thinks that pu’erh should be earthy, or at least I want it to be earthy.

I like this – and while I probably liked yesterdays better – this would have more chance of making it back into my cupboard, because it is more sheng like (of course it’s sold out so that’s really a non-issue).

2016 Sheng Olympics

This is really light and gentle. Zero bitterness – zero astringency. It’s pretty sweet, quite a bit fruity (grape earlier shifting more to apricot/peach later).
This is a really nice tea to drink. While I really like this, I don’t think it’s sheng ish ( and that’s probably why I like it). To my tastes this is more like an aged white or a moonlight but not quite as deep of flavors as those are. If I were reaching for this style of tea I would be more apt to reach for a really good moonlight.
Happy to have experienced this – had a couple of really nice afternoons with it – but I don’t think there is a place for this in my cupboard.

Ubacat

Sounds like my kind of tea. I love the “white” raw puerh teas.

Rasseru

I even got hints of cucumber pineapple and lemongrass -

C.S. Lewis – “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

I needed to update my profile. I joined Steepster 03Mar13. I am just amazed at how much my tastes have changed since then.
When I discovered loose leaf tea about a year and half ago, I didn’t know anything other than my local Davids and Teavana/Teaopia. Stumbling onto Steepster CHANGED EVERYTHING.
Hello, my name is Dex I’m a tea addict.
I’ve been through the “I need to try every single tea out there” phase. I really hope the worst of that has passed. I’ve learned enough to know that I only need to try HALF of all the teas out there. LOL
When I started this journey, I was all about the flavored rooibos and fruity tisanes. Don’t get me wrong there is still room for dessert (chocolate/caramel/nutty) Rooibos teas in my cupboard and I still do enjoy them, BUT I am quickly learning to appreciate the some of the straight teas of the world.
Big bold (but not icky)pu’erh is suddenly my favorite, followed by woody/roasted oolongs. I’m just starting to explore straight black teas, and have found some that I really like.
Generally speaking I’m not into greens at all, only like the occasional green oolong, and white teas are just too mild for my tastes (unless they are fruit flavored). I still enjoy really good fruit tisanes, but am now cold steeping them.
I don’t like floral/herbal blends, and mint anything is not on my preferred list.
I am still exploring new teas, adapting to my changing tastes, understanding more every day how little I really know about tea. Ultimately I would love to find approximately 50 teas that I just “can’t live without” and always have them in my cupboard. That might not be practical, but that what I’m searching for. It’s going to be a fun journey.

All in all, I love this site. I’ve met some wonderful people, and have gotten to try some amazing teas because of them. It really restores your faith in humanity when you get a note saying “oh by the way I sent you some tea”. Wonderful, generous, people here.
