drank Apricot Guayusa by Butiki Teas
470 tasting notes

I’ve been on a bit of a Steepster hiatus since my past few days of tea drinking have been kind of boring—I was at my parents’ house so I went to my old standby bagged earl grey and lemon herbal, and other than that I’ve been playing around with the sample of my custom blend from Butiki. I’m sure everyone would have been enthralled by 5 tasting notes for the same tea in 2 days! Time for something different tonight, so I reached for one of the Butiki samples I got from the awesome Krystaleyn. I love apricot and am in the mood for something new!

This is my first experience with guayusa—I’ve been a bit nervous to try it after reading some tasting notes describing it as plant-y. Well… it is! But not in a bad way. It tastes like fresh-cut grass, and smells like maple tree leaves in the spring when they’re bright and green and new. It’s herbal without a specific herb taste, and is wonderfully new tasting. It’s less plant-y than it is bud-y. It evokes some kind of odd nostalgia in me—when I was younger I used to go out after the rain and pull up blades of grass so I could see the new, soft green part coated in dew… and then I’d munch on them. I know it’s pretty weird, but it was so fresh and sweet, like veggies straight from the ground. That’s what this tea reminds me of! The sweetness is from the apricot, which is so subtle and light. I think I’m going to have to order some of this asap… as soon as I get some more tea funds.

Glad you liked this more than I did! I drank it for the first time today too :)

Kittenna

Also, I did the same thing with blades of grass, although not after rain, specifically. Yum :D

Haha, good to know I’m not alone in my grass-eating weirdness! Sometimes I still do it if I’m out back in the yard playing with the cats. They always seem to be munching on it too!

tigress_al

I used to eat grass too! Weird. I just got my Butiki order today, and I am going to try this tomorrow!

Bonnie

I have the other flavor sunshine which is lemony and delish! And the tangerine Creamsicle is really yummy!

Alphakitty

I definitely need to try out some different guayusa blends, I am totally in love with the base of this and want more more more!

Tawny Kira

I second Bonnie’s recommendation of the Good Morning Sunshine & Tangerine Creamsicle flavors! They’re both delicious!

CHAroma

Thanks for the tip about Good Morning Sunshine! I missed 52teas’ Lemolicious Ecuadorian Guayusa, and the Sunshine blend sounds like it’s very similar. I can’t wait to try it! :D

CelebriTEA

OMG!
I munched on grass as a kid myself…lol…I chalked it up to spending so much
time on my grandfather’s farm. This tea is good, and I am going to have to order
more than just a sample next time…lol…

Tea has always been a passion of mine, though I got away from it during college. A lack of cupboard space and a constant influx of people into my suite made me pretty much abandon my teas at home. But now that I’m done with school, it’s definitely come back with a vengeance—to the point where I’ve purchased about 65 different kinds in the past 3 months!

I like most kinds of teas—yes, even peach, which I used to think I disliked!. Oolongs are definitely my favorite, and I’m an avid fan of earl grey, floral teas, and chai blends along with anything melon. The only kind of teas on my “no” list are rooibos blends (which gives me headaches) and banana flavored ones since bananas are public enemy #1 in my mind.

The best thing about tea for me is how you can be passionate about it and still have it integrate into all of your other hobbies. I like a lot of things: writing, video games, books, sewing, figure collecting, astronomy… it’s a long list. But whatever I’m doing, I can have a cup of tea in hand!
