I must preface this tasting note by stating I know absolutely nothing about black tea. To me, it all tastes like orange pekoe (other than Earl Grey).

This is a really NICE cup of what I expect black tea to taste like. My taste buds are not refined enough to distinguish what makes a darjeeling different from a Chinese black tea. Anyone care to offer a lesson?

I am on my second steep (4mins, as opposed to 3 for the first). The second cup is less “orange pekoe”-y to me . I think it’s that after-taste thing that reminds me of OP. It’s decently thick, decently strong, and just what I needed to wake up on this cool, way-to-fallish, August morning. Lovely.

drank White Peony by Tea Oh

I’ve had this tea perhaps three times now but I’ve avoiding logging it in hopes that the next cup would be spectacular. It’s not that it’s bad – far from it! I do enjoy it.
The flavor is subtle, and not bitter in any way.
But it’s not as great as the White Peony I had from World Tea House. The thing that’s missing is that soft, silky mouthfeel. It’s just a little too watery. Next time I will double the amount of leaves! Or maybe it’s the plastic office kettle? I should try making this at home, but for now, I have to say I’m somewhat unsatisfied.

(back-logging)

Had a cup this morning. Perfectly devine, until the last third of my cup. It was my own fault, though. I couldn’t find my tea balls so I just threw some leaves in the cup. After a half hour steeping, the last of the cup was a bit too bitter. But the first half – heaven!

Today, after drinking a cup of Jasmine green tea, I re-steeped the leaves along with a large helping of kiwi berry. I cold-steeped it for a few hours and am happy to report it made a lovely iced tea! The green tea helped give the tea more body – something that was definitely lacking before. The flavor, however, came mostly from the fruit pieces. The tea was a beautiful dark pink/red color. Yum!

finally brewed up a cup today. The sample has been tempting me for awhile, but today was the day!

It’s a very nice honeybush… it has the flavor I expect, but also an unknown fruityness to it. Unfortunately, I got occupied, and my cup cooled, but it’s still good. Will do a second steep!

This box has been in my cupboard forever. I got it in a set with some other one I really wanted, and I just never got around to making this. Since I was already boiling water to steep some kiwi berry for iced tea, and it was 10pm, I figured ‘what the heck!’.

It is pretty standard chamomile tea, but when I thought about it I have to say, I am impressed. I am not sure I can much distinguish between this tea and my loose leaf mint chamomile. It’s thick and flavorful and smells nice. The only thing I might say about this one is that it is leaving a ‘thing’ in the back of my throat. What is that?

zeitfliesst less than a minute ago Yeah, that ‘thing’ at the back of your throat is what threw me off too. My mouth felt really dry after a sip of this tea.

I am super excited about this tea! I’m writing this as I go…
It arrived yesterday with my kiwi berry tea, and unfortunately for it, the delicate smell was overpowered by the tisane. I’ve been desperate to get it alone! Looking at the bag, the leaves are quite small, and there are not a whole lot of jasmine flowers in there.
Tea Oh! teas do not come with steeping instructions. They recommend using steep.it
So, I boiled the water, and let it cool for about 7 minutes and then steeped a small teaspoon in a cup of water for just over 1 minute. This seems short? But what do I know! This is my first time steeping Japanese green tea.
There is a slight grassy smell, but not fresh grass. It’s like dry grass, but not hay. Eesh. I can definitely smell the sweet flowery jasmine. I can barely wait for it cool down!
Ah, it tastes almost exactly as it smells, except there is no noticeable grassiness. It is quite floral, but not too much for my tastes. It is smooth like a white tea, but heavier, and there is a little after-twinge on the tongue. Lovely!

Received my order yesterday, and immediately upon opening the envelope I could smell this tea. It smells like Fruitopia juice, so strong and sweet! I set some to cold steep immediately.

I used 1 tea ball full for 1 liter of water. The colour was beautiful pink, but quite pale. I filled my water bottle this morning with it, and have been drinking it since. The flavor is mild, but definitely tastes of kiwi and strawberries, I believe. It’s not grossly fruity, and still reminds me a lot of Fruitopia, without the overwhelming sweetness. It’s very good, I just need to bulk up tea to water ratio. I have more steeping at home as we speak. Yum.

I will hold off on rating this tea until I do it justice.

Had this again today. Steeped for 10 minutes in 96ish water + vanilla soy. I found it weak. So I boiled more water, topped off the cup and steeped another 10 minutes. It still was not overly satisfying. Perhaps I was too heavy on the milk?

What was you leaf to water ratio? I usually use 1 tsp per 8oz of water and steep for 5 mins.

thewaterbird

I didn’t measure, but filled the teaball, so I’d say at least 1 tsp in probably 10oz.

sounds like the right brewing parameters to me. perhaps try simmering it in the soy-water on the stove loose for 5 mins and pour through a strainer… it’s quite delicious done that way.

Philip Holmans

if your looking to make a soy-latte, only use 1/2 as much water so it brews concentrated. that’s how we prepare our chai in the tea house.

I’ll definitely try that next! Until now I’ve been making it at my office desk, which limits what I can do. But I am not ready to call it quits on this tea yet!

Bio

I’ve been drinking tea off and on for a few years, but only in the last year have I started to test out loose leafs, and expand my taste buds.

I consider myself very new to the world of teas, especially when it comes to properly steeping, and knowing much about what certain teas are supposed to be like.

After discovering there was more to tea than Red Rose OP, I have traditionally tended to drink mint teas and similar herbals (but no fruity ones), red rooibos, honeybush, and the occasional matte. I’ve only recently discovered white teas and oolongs, which I really enjoy.

I’m expanding my knowledge, trying new teas, and just starting to learn about temperature/steep times, etc.

0: I don’t even want to taste it.
1-10: I can’t finish the cup.
11-30: I’ll finish my cup, but that’s it.
31-50: I will drink it until I’ve used it all up, or find someone to give it to. It’s ok, but it’s not something I tend to reach for.
51-70: I enjoy it enough to reach for it specifically, but I won’t get it again.
71-80: I enjoy it quite a bit. I would recommend it to others.
81-90: I would definitely buy again, but it’s not my favorite.
91-100: The creme de la creme
