From Zen Tea

This popular plantation offers outstanding quality. On a growing area of 308 hectares, this plantation still produces orthodox leaf qualities in large quantities, compared to many other Ceylonese tea gardens. Strikingly beautiful, black pine needle-shaped leaves, full-bodied in taste. Dark-red infusion with earthy, spicy flavour.

Price: $10 / 100g

I’m always on the search for nice and tasty new black teas, but this one isn’t very unique. The flavor isn’t very delicious or noticeable. This one would suit if you just wanted a black tea to go about your day, not really something to sit and savor. The dry leaves are very black. After a four minute steep, there is a medium body but it is a bit astringent with a tiny bit of a smokey flavor… not really much else to comment on. This isn’t a terrible blend, but there are so many more interesting black teas out there I would rather drink. But maybe a different steep would result in a much better cup…

Oh my. I have to say that I do like this one. I think I’d even like it more on a fuller stomach.

There was a chocolatey note that came through even when I was pouring it, and I was already excitedly looking forward to sipping from that alone. It comes through in the taste as well; dry and delicious. Perhaps a little light, but I like them that way when having them clear. I am looking forward to more cups of this soon!

Enjoyed this Ceylon from Zen Tea. I swear I had a tasting note for this already! Well, I guess not.

I had this as a sampler size bag from this company a while back. I also finished it a while back. All I remember is that i had this around the same time an another Ceylon from Capital Tea LTD. This was a toned down version of that tea. It had a dustier quality, and the clover honey notes were much more subdued. It resteeped really well, I had it in my travel tumbler and was able to absent mindedly redrew the same leaves about 3-4times before getting bored. While I would not purchase again, (Capital Tea’s Ceylon I had was far better) it was a good comparison tea.

I was very curious about trying this one from the description.

It’s a beautiful color and I steeped three minutes with just under boiling water from the kettle in my 5 ounce cup. Next steep I will try 4 minutes to see if I bring out more flavor and all the way boil, with some cooling.

I don’t get much spice note at the end, but there are glimpses of it sometimes. It is a pleasant, soothing black tea with a nice reddish brown color left behind in the cup. A black tea that makes me feel tranquil and peaceful. Smooth with no astringency or bitterness.

A great black tea when you’re looking for a standard black tea – good with and without sugar. Milk wouldn’t make sense to me in this one, it’s not a breakfast tea. It’s smooth, not brisk, very peaceful.

I drank this with a small piece of Cheesecake. I hadn’t mixed tea and cheescake before but it definitely works. Delicious! This would be one of those soothing black teas that would fit a hot bath and good book perfectly. More of an evening, relaxing blend over a morning wake-up call.
