From Whittard of Chelsea

Taste: The chocolate taste is deliciously precise and fresh, rather than creamy or thick. With hints of cinnamon, chicory, ginger, cloves and peppercorns – just what you need to spice it up! Chocolate kernals do not contain caffeine, though they do have a lovely clean chocolate taste.

Brewing: Always brew very lightly using a pinch of leaves in a tea bowl or 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of leaves per 6-cup teapot. Do not add milk. Boil freshly drawn cold water, warm the pot first with a splash of hot water. Add the tea and pour on boiling water. Brew for 2-5 minutes. If brewing in a tea bowl, top up repeatedly with more hot water.

Ingredients: Chocolate kernels, cinnamon, chicory, ginger, cloves, coconut, cardamom and pink peppercorns.

On opening the package I am hit with the scent of the tea. It is overwhelmingly clove-y with a hint of chocolate.

As it steeps, it gets less and less clove-y and smells more like gingerbread. By the end of the steeping, the whole room smells as if I live in a gingerbread house. I’m not really picking up the chocolate.

It tastes how I would imagine a chocolate-covered gingerbread house to taste like. It’s really sweet. I can’t really taste the cloves as much as I expected (this is a good thing – the smell of the tea before steeping was actually making me not want to brew it) and they are sort of lurking in the background. Made this as a latte – very nice. I’ll try it without any additives next time.

Successfully gave it to my girlfriend, who luckily likes it more than I do!!

Didn’t I give you that? Or one like it?

You guys I made a tea latte. My first ever tea latte and I am so happy I chose this tea to do it! Overall it was a bit sickly for me, but that might have something to do with the amount of honey I added… I brewed a small-ish cup of double-strength tea for 5 minutes, and added it to two times the amount of hot semi-skimmed milk, so it was 1/3 tea in the end. I then put about 4 spoons of honey in it (it was a giant mug, so it’s not quite as bad as it sounds!) and that’s where it all went a bit wrong. Two would have DEFINITELY been enough.

Aside from the sugar overload, this was definitely a success, and I can’t wait to try other types of tea latte! It makes an amazing night time treat, as it’s caffeine-free and the chocolate reminds me of drinking hot chocolate on a night as a child, but with a more grown-up twist. The spices are a lovely aftertaste, and the red peppercorns leave a really nice tingle on your tongue. I will be making this again for sure!

Hello.Kiki

I was just asking my sister yesterday how she makes the chai lattes at her coffee shop. She just told me it depends which one. Lol, thank sis.
Now you have re-inspired me to try a chocolate chai tea latte…. sounds yummy!

This is by far one of my favorite herbal blends, which is why I stocked up before I left the UK. It is very warming and not overly sweet, but still has a strong chai flavour. I would drink it any winter night.
