From the Guangdong province of China, our Moon Bloom Dancong oolong tea is made from yelaixiang varietal.
The varietal name Yelaixiang roughly translates as “fragrance that arrives in the night”. Though the varietal does not share the same notoriety as Milan due to its much smaller production size, the lack of fame shouldn’t deter you from trying it. Our Moon Bloom is heavily oxidized and has a smooth, reddish liquor. The flavors are fruity and floral, with heavy fragrances throughout.
The most noticeable thing to me about the tea is that the taste and texture are creamy as hell, like “?? Did I put oat milk in this without realizing it?” The other notes are more subtle, like a sort of lemony aftertaste. Seems to steep out pretty quickly. A quiet but enjoyable experience.

Ah, but they didn’t have fancy tea like this in his part of the town. It was around but not where he was. This seems like a typical dancong. Has the usual qualities but I wouldn’t say it’s a superior version. Good aroma with minerality and wet stone and a mix of different rocks which also translates into the flavor. The mouthfeel smooths out with each infusion.
