Singapore Breakfast

I got this tea from the Urban Tea Merchant in downtown Vancouver. I was disappointed that they stopped stocking THÉ Ô DOR, but TWG seems to be a pretty decent replacement line.

I’m never quite sure how to steep black tea/green tea blends so in this case I temporized by doing a slightly lower temperature and less time than I would for a straight black tea. I love the Bourbon vanilla scent of this blend – it’s sweet and rich and makes me think of baking sugar cookies. Unfortunately the flavour is more vegetal and less vanilla-y than I would like, although the vanilla is still certainly there. There’s also hints of something else under the vanilla – maybe something citrusy and traces of some sort of spices.

I’m burning through my tin of this stuff awfully quickly. I stare into the tea cabinet and wonder what to brew, and I never think I want the Singapore Breakfast. Then I smell the vanilla, and it’s over. The blend of green and black teas is even and surprisingly stout, and the vanilla on top makes it sing. Now the indoor respite is perfect. Look at those poor fools outside the window, tromping through the old snow. Nah nah nee boo boo.

This is my everyday tea for the most part. I’ve recently been drinking a lot of first flush Darjeeling, but it might be too expensive to become a habit. I went to Singapore a month ago and this tea changed my life while I was there. Singapore Breakfast tea made me quit coffee and completely switch to tea!

This tea is absolutely lovely. A blend of green and black with a subtle spice aroma. I’m carefully conserving my supply!

I really do love this tea. Smells of bourbon vanilla, maybe a touch of cinnamon or warm spice that smells familiar. Maybe slight caramel? Like others have said, it smells better than it tastes, but taste is not bad at 90C for 3 min. Vanilla is not as present as the almost subtle chai flavor in taste.

I think it burns easily. It is a green tea/black tea blend, and the green is not robust and it tastes like a mellow black tea. Tannins are present just not super strong.

This bag in the TTB was labelled as The Urban Tea Merchant but any time I google that it brings me back to TWG so I hope this is the right place.

The tea smells like vanilla and smokey spice.

The brewed tea is quite creamy. Is is a great blend of green and black teas. I find sometimes that works great and sometimes it goes really bad. There is flavours of vanilla, orange rind, and some other spices I can’t quite place. It very much reminds me of a Christmas blend but not so Christmassy. Sometimes I think cinnamon, then no, and sometimes I think tamarind, then no. It’s weird , but delicious at the same time.

Quite like this one. Not sure if I would call it a breakfast blend. To me is more of an afternoon tea but I guess that is debatable.

This is really lovely, as TWG always is. I like to consider this tea a ‘green tea’ version of the usual black chai masala. It’s spicy and yet tempered with a sophisticated sense of restraint that makes the blend smooth and not as punchy; I think its name is very apt. Great to wake up to if you don’t like teas that kick you between the teeth.

Not sure why I still have this around and how I’ve gone through so much of it without having been left with much of an impression about it. I find myself agreeing with my previous note, puzzled as to why it’s a breakfast tea and barely being able to pick out ginger as the lone flavor.
It’s been a long time since I ordered this tea so I decided to check out what is new on the Urban Tea Merchant site where I bought it from only to find out that UTM has been closed for some time! I didn’t order from them often, but I’m sad to see they are no more.
