From thepuriTea

Also known as “Bai Mu Dan,” White Peony is an excellent everyday white tea with a full flavor that appeals to many black-tea drinkers. Each spring in Fujian, China, it is hand-plucked as sets of two leaves for each bud, and then minimally processed for a nuanced flavor and high level of antioxidants. White Peony’s pale golden brew has complexly woodsy, floral aromas with hints of cocoa, peaches and apricots. Its layered, full, woodsy, bittersweet flavor is almost reminiscent of our Golden Yunnan black tea. Its light, clean aftertaste makes it a perfect tea for pairing with honey-drizzled apricots or toasted English muffins with butter and honey.

Backlog:

this is a really lovely White Peony, which is no big surprise, because I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve ever tried from thepuriTea … (Earl Grey Fans … try their Earl Grey!) this is a lovely, fruity, deliciously delicate – but not too delicate – bai mu dan. By that, I mean, that this has a fuller flavor than most Bai Mu Dan teas that I’ve tried, it really blew me away!

Really good!

It was great, until the after taste, but I used up my entire sample so can’t play with this to adjust the parameters to decrease the bitterness.

Sometimes I love Bai Mu Dan and sometimes I really don’t. I went through almost an entire sample of this without bothering to make a tasting note because I thought it was just meh. Today, however, it tastes amazing. Figures that it’s the very last of my sample.

I taste all kinds of things in here. Sweet, nutty, and reminiscent of apricots. It’s really full, not delicate in the way most white teas are. Then again, my opinion of this tea is apparently completely arbitrary. Still, very soothing when I’m in the mood.

Back from the PT- I was really put through the wringer today and was wondering if I’d even be able to move when I got home. I know I need to do this for my long term benefit but it still hurts!

Anyway enough whining for now. I received a sample of this from thePuritea shortly before they went out of business. I had been wondering if I forgot to rinse my dishes properly because something smells slightly “chemically” when I hold my nose up to the cup.

Steeping this for 3 minutes produced a dark yellow clear tea liquor. As far as flavor is concerned it is definitely on the mild side and good for a relaxing moment. As the cup cools I am getting the woody notes along with some nutty ones and peach. The finish is a bit sweet on your tongue. I don’t know that much about white teas but this seems very soothing to me. Perhaps I should look into stocking a white peony?
