Oh dear.

Rolled oolongs, you torture me.

You never smell floral when you’re being all coy, dry, rolled up and green.

But the minute hot water hits you, and enormous bouquets of flowery evil assault me.

What am I going to do with all this tea, now?

Scooped a bulk sample at Central Market. This one is on the more oxidized side, and it’s good when I want something a little more robust than my usual fare of greens and lighter oolongs.

It tastes woody and nutty. No bitterness at all. The taste is balanced and has more complexity the longer you sip it. This is something I would pick for a day when I have to wake up before dawn and my feet are cold.

1/26/14 Tasted at a tea event. This is a nice basic tieguanyin, and was a pleasant bump up the intensity ladder. The first serving was very floral, with a ton of the clover/honey notes oolong teas are known for, as well as a note of toasted coconut. The second serving was much smoother and more mellow, with a pleasant creaminess to it.

I’ve been drinking this while trying to write a talk I don’t want to give on Thursday. It has been a bright spot in my work slog. That being said, I’m tired enough right now that the exact words to describe it are escaping me. It has a light, smooth, toasty orchid flavor that held up well to two steepings. Can’t say I am alert enough to tell a difference in the taste betweeen the first and second steep. Let’s just say I enjoyed both and I look forward to drinking this again!

Extremely delicate, silky smooth and sweet. Brew refined, throw out the first cup

I’m a sucker for this type of Oolong. This Ti Kuan Yin isn’t as floral as others I’ve had but it is of the orchid nonetheless, people. For the retail price, I might not buy it again, but I will enjoy every last one of the 50-60 brews with multiple re-steeps.

My favorite oolong. It’s delicate and faintly sweet, almost flowery, but not at all cloying. The little leaves are wadded up like spitballs, lovely to watch unfurl in the hot water.

Nice oolong with good flavor that develops over several steepings. Very clean finish, and smooth taste. I buy this bulk from Central Market.
