From The London Tea Room

Tropical and creamy coconut, with hints of a macaroon-like sweetness, blends wonderfully with the fruity and lilac floral notes of Taiwanese Bao Zhong oolong.

I’m drinking this tea & writing this review in response to Nik’s review of Coconut Pouchong. I love coconut!

The scent of the dry leaves is toasted coconut with a hint of vanilla & something sweet. While brewing, I smell that mildly floral oolong base, always so smooth.

While my tea is cooling down enough to sip, I’d like to say that this is my last cup at home this morning, as a group of my adult harp students & I are taking an excursion downtown to have lunch & tea at the London Tea Room, from whence this blend came.

Unsweetened, this tea has a wonderful floral & toasted coconut taste that is smooth & deep, without being overpowering. There is a ‘wetness’ to it that I don’t know how to describe.

A little stevia & I’m drinking a macaroon! I love macaroons, nomnom, they are so yummy, nomnom…

“Hey? Where’s my cup of tea?”
It’s gone!

Azzrian

This is one of my favorites from LTR!

Bonnie

Oooh I think you sent me some. I’ll have to try this!

Terri HarpLady

I was cleaning up the kitchen after dinner, washing all my little tea cups, various brewing devices, & sniffing the leftover leaves of today’s various brewings, when I came across one that smells so heavenly. What is this? It smells like butter, and carmel, and Orchid oolong. I added hot water, and I’ve been sipping it…It’s a beautiful golden yellow, the flavor is bright & shining. I drank most of it plain, still not sure what it was, some tasty, smooth oolong, then I added a drop of stevia, & the coconut jumped up & said, “Here I am!”

Bonnie

You need to be an animator not a harpist. Your tea has a little voice, you have another personality and your tea talks to you. Ha ha , hee hee, chuckle! (in my imagination your tea voice sounds like Hoops and Yoyo http://youtu.be/sdJZFhXg5SM ha ha ha ha ha!

Bonnie

BTW are you and I the only ones in the WORLD who got our shipment of the Dragonwell yesterday? How’d that happen?

Terri HarpLady

I noticed that, Bonnie! Nobody else has reviewed it yet! We must be special?

Bonnie

I hope that ’special is a good ’special and not the IRS kind of “you’re going to be audited” kind of ’special!

Sipdown. It was lovely. Stayed fresh considering it is one of the first loose leaf teas I ever purchased. London Tea Room seems to have a ton of new teas. I think I will hit them next month for an order.
This … was delicious!

Terri HarpLady

I need to stop over at the LTR this week to pick out a tea to share with my Steepster book club buddies.

Azzrian

They have so many new ones but Terri I HATE their online shopping cart! Their cart along with Butiki’s never work for me. With Butiki I can just email stacy and she sends me an invoice. I always have to call LTR to buy teas. Which is not a bad thing but if I could do it online it would be nice. For some reason their carts always empty on me as I look around for more things to add to my cart. Anyway … I need to make an order next month as it will be a larger one I think, need to get to them before I nickel and dime my pocket book down like I did this month.

Terri HarpLady

I’ve looked at their menu online, but have never tried ordering from it. That’s a bummer that it doesn’t work right. I’m thinking you should just come to st louis, visit me, & we’ll go have tea together & you can buy it then. :)

Azzrian

Sounds like a plan! I do hope to visit St. Louie again soon! I will be sure to arrange a meet up!! :)

Sipdown! 837.

This is only a sipdown of the tea I got from Azzrian – pretty sure Sil “gifted” me with some more that’s lurking somewhere…

Anyways, this was my attempt at making this one into iced tea. I didn’t cold-steep, as I often get too much astringency when I do that with “real” tea, so I just brewed extra strong normally (3min/90C), then diluted it and chilled it in the fridge. In fact, it got so cold in the fridge that the top layer was ice! Perhaps I should bump the fridge temp up…

For whatever reason, I was kind of “over” coconut oolongs as hot drinks… sure they’re good, but something wasn’t really working for me anymore, and I wasn’t really craving them in spite of having a few different (yet very similar) options. However, I’m really enjoying it cold, and it kind of reminds me of coconut water, with a bit of toastiness – and the coconut flavour lingers after sipping. It’s really quite tasty and refreshing. I just guzzled the entire 2-cup glass of it that I retrieved from the fridge. I think I may make more of it this way…

In other news… my back is still pretty painful, and I am having trouble sleeping partially because I can’t get comfortable. It sucks. I’m currently waiting for more painkillers to kick in in the hopes that they knock me out a bit… and meanwhile getting my veggies in by snacking on a giant bowl of snap peas (not from my garden, sadly, but the pea plants still live! Haven’t been munched to the ground by bunnies yet!)

oh dear, i’ve been scrolling through your reviews hoping you would say that tea had cured you.have you seen a doctor yet?

Kittenna

I haven’t seen a doctor, but after an evening of my boyfriend taking care of me (e.g. massage, making me food), I’m definitely feeling improvement. Whew. :)

I had some of this after my interview and it was just what I needed.
The role is Technical Recruiter. Not sure if I will get it but… well I am confident that I’d do well. The location is really outta the way so I’d be miserable, not being close to the city I so love working in and all the places it affords access to. Bah, it is a job and I need a job so who am I to complain right.
Anyhow, this tea is like an old friend, the kind you can lean on in weary times. Creamy, coconut goodness. A touch harsh on the scratchiness. Sighs. Does it get any better?
Raising the rating a bit.
On another note, I have my ratings bar back. Yay!!
Rating: 88

Thank you Terri HarpLady for this sample tea!

The London Tea Room is a local place where Terri meets her friends for tea and friendly conversation, sort of a fancier version of Happy Lucky’s Tea House with a food menu. I’ve seen some of her pictures and I can see how much fun she has!
When one of you Steepster people comments “I wish that I had a Happy Lucky’s by me”, or “I wish that I had a tea Pub”, I often look up your town or city…hoping to find somewhere for you to go. A special little place of your own to check out for tea. The internet isn’t always helpful unfortunately.

With her trips to The London Tea Room, Terri has acquired a good stash of their tea’s for her cupboard and has shared some in a swap with me. Thanks Terri, I need to buy your CD now!

I used more than the normal amount of leaves (on a whim, at least a tablespoon and a half) and steeped them for 3 minutes in 6 (not 8…again a whim) ounces of water.
The first steeping was a little bitter, harsh but fragrant. It tasted vegital and the coconut was a little strange tasting too.

I repeated the same 3 minute steeping with the same amount of water and voila’….perfect coconut Oolong tea!
There wasn’t any bitterness or harsh flavor, just a subtle, creamy coconut taste with an aroma that smelled like cream pie.

As the tea cooled down the creaminess increased and coated my tongue, my teeth, my lips…so eh cudnt tk! (pause)

This was REALLY CREAMY COCONUT OOLONG! And yes, I did sweeten mine!

Here’s the deal though…and don’t forget!
The first steep is YUCKY!
The second steep is YUMMY!

Azzrian

I love the London Tea Room! That is where I had my first Cream Tea! Oh how I became addicted to clotted cream because of that place. Also the very first place I got my initial stash of loose leaf tea!!! I am almost out of this coconut oolong too! Need to make an online order.

yappychappy

Coconut oolong? Definitely going to have to try this out. Sounds amazing. Giant fan of coconut.

Mrnixonpants

I was one of those people who said that. I wanted to let you know even though I’ve looked before, I decided to type my zip in the places section and something new popped up! Looks like small tea bar in the neighboring college town! It doesn’t look like much, possibly even run out of a dorm room, but I see a really cute gongfu set up and a makeshift “bar” with people around it sipping tea! I’ve facebooked them for more info, but it seems I may have found a Happy Lucky’s!! They even take credit cards =) Woohoo so excited right now!

Scharp

The change in flavor is interesting! Actually, quite peculiar.

Bonnie

Mrnixonpants…I hope so! Keep us informed!!!

oh god. i don’t know what’s worse…the oolong or the coconut. DEAR GOD NO! :) sooo sample from terri, and even though i was pretty sure that was going to be my reaction, i figured what the heck, i’ll give it a try. Especially after quite enjoying the coconut mango tea from last night.

the rest of this is going to kittenna whether she wants it or not…because i said so. Only enough for a cup but it needs a good home.

So sorry terri…lol at least i tried! not rating this since it really is because of my preferences and NOT because this is a terrible cup of tea.

ohfancythat

did you like the davidstea version??

Sil

Um never tried it…being coconut and oolong lol

ohfancythat

Ah ok, you hate it that much eh? Too bad!

Sil

i dislike most coconut…i really don’t like green oolongs 90% of the time…together? ick. but oh man. loving the pina colada tea i’m having tonight!

ohfancythat

Funny how tastes are different! I love my coconut oolong, it’s in my top five for sure :)

Stephanie

I love coconut oolong but I’ve never tried this one

Thanks to Azzrian for another tasty sample!

This one is very good. It’s sweet creamy coconut milk. Like a coconut sorbet in a green oolong. It reminds of Golden Moon’s Coconut Pouchong. I’d love to do a comparison but I don’t have any of the other one at the moment. :(

Mmmm….heavenly scent. yum.

Azzrian

I love both of them really. They are VERY similar! Either one makes me happy :)
I do like more of the teas from LTR rather than Golden Moon – only a few I have really loved from Golden Moon so for that reason I would probably restock the LTR one.

This is another one that I’ve had for far too long without rating it. We’re going to St. Louis in July, so I am looking forward to visiting The London Tea Room again for lunch and to purchase some new teas. Overall, I’ve been very impressed with their blends, and my Mom loves their 5th of November tea. My goal before then is to get through the rest of this tea drawer (and box of samples) so that I have room to add some new teas in.

This tea is very pretty, with big twisted green tea leaves. The dry leaves smell strongly of sweet coconut. It’s kind of like a coconut flake or toasted coconut smell, rather than fresh coconut. The tea’s aroma smells more like fresh coconut, which is exactly what the flavor of this tea is. There is a nice creamy coconut aftertaste too. I added a little sweetener and it made the tea so much better in my opinion. It’s a smooth cup with a mouth-filling sweet coconut flavor. I think I prefer Queen Mary’s Coconut Baozhong just slightly over this one.

-Dry blend has large twisted green tea leaves and twigs.
-Dry leaves smell strongly of sweet toasted coconut. Tea liquor aroma is of fresh coconut.
-Tea liquor is a clear pale yellow color.
-Fresh coconut flavor and finish. Creamy coconut aftertaste.
-Best with sweetener.
-Very good tea. Smooth and creamy sweet coconut flavor.

I hope we’ll get a chance to meet for tea while you’re here, Josie! Hopefully it won’t be the same week that I’m visiting my parents in Orlando. :)

Josie Jade

I would love that, Terry! We should be in town from July 2nd through July 7th. When will you be going to Orlando?

Thanks to TerriHarpLady for the sample of this!

I’m currently reading a play for class right now, so I put about a teaspoon of this into my basket infuser and set it in my 8oz Bodum Pavina. It’s a great size for doing 3 or 4 steepings.

The dry leaf smells great – really coconutty. I love coconut, and I was super excited to see this. Checked the London Tea Room website – no steeping instructions, so I came onto Steepster. Water at 180, steeped 3 minutes.

It’s a rather light oolong. The tea is very lightly yellow, and the scent is also pale. The oolong itself is deliciously roasty, and the coconut is definitely there, wrapping itself around the flavor of the leaf.

Thanks Terri! This is super relaxing!
