This is one of those teas that makes it hard for me to frown in Teavana’s general direction. I really enjoy the medley of peach and papaya, with the underlying vegetable green flavor. I enjoy this hot or iced…or lukewarm as I am enjoying it now (had a meeting and walked away without realizing I was leaving this behind). I have yet to taste a tea as tropical and flavorful as this – but I’m always open to suggestions!

I can’t sleep so I’m gonna drink tea. This tastes really peachy this time around. It really is reminiscent of white wine. I am not tasting green tea at all though. I also get a honey flavor even though I didn’t add anything.

But at least unlike the tea I had earlier, there’s a bit more to it. I updated the info on the tea, and it had said 1 1/2 tsp per cup, and my label plus the site say 1 tsp now. I really think it needs to be brewed with 1 1/2.

But it’s still good with just 1 heaping tsp, I just wish I could taste the green tea.

I feel that my opinion of this particular tea is highly influenced by my experience purchasing it. I was on a trip to Boston, dropping my brother off at his university. Since I was in the US, I HAD to stock up on tea, and that included my visit to Teavana. When I got there, I was surprised to find that they were just about to start discontinuing tea. The vendor told me that she couldn’t tell me which ones were going to be discontinued yet, but she could hint at it if I was buying one of the teas that would be discontinued so I could stock up (confusing… I know…).

I picked out my tea and when I decided to try this one, the vendor told me this one would be discontinued for sure, so I bought 4 oz just in case I really liked it and would never be able to get it again. I was so proud of myself for being smart and buying it and liking it and having it in my stash once it was “going to be discontinued”.

Once Teavana announced which teas were being discontinued, this one was not on the list. I liked it, not loved it, and was stuck with 4oz of it… Needless to say, I put it away and didn’t drink it for a while. I somehow had a thought of this tea while walking my dogs, and when we got back, I brewed some up.

The dry tea is a bright mix of fruits and tea leaves. The lemon grass is far more abundant than the green tea leaves. There are candied fruits and petals that make it a pretty blend to look at. The scent is very fruity and fresh. I smell apple and peach. Maybe a bit of papaya. Mostly just fruity.

Brewed it is a yellow-green golden color. The scent is just as fruity. Unsweetened it is tasty, but a bit bitter for my liking. Sweetened with brown sugar it is much tastier. The fruitiness covers up the green tea almost entirely, but it is still an enjoyable brew. I get apple and generic tropical flavor. It does remind me of a peachy papaya flavor. It is fruity and refreshing.

The first few times I had it, I really didn’t like it. But, in retrospect, I feel it was my experience purchasing it that was influencing my taste-buds. Now that more time has passed, I am able to enjoy it much more. Funny how emotions play a huge part in taste perception…

Well, fruta bomba is what the Cubans call papaya, since papaya to a Cuban is fairly rude. Have you tried it iced? I’m curious if it would be juice-like, which may influence my decision to get some.

Another Teavana victim! Sorry that happened to you. :( I actually enjoy blending this one with Jingaa Citrus Twist, so there’s a bit of extra flavor.

More game-playing from Teavana. It’s amazing how many of these stories I hear …

Thanks MissB for sending me a sample of this.
I was drinking this last night and didn’t get a chance to log it. Decided to have another cup tonight.
This is a decent fruity green tea. It’s a little different than what I would normally choose for myself. Fruity in this one means: peachy and citrus. It’s a little sweet, not much tart, not too acidic.
All in all a solid fruit green.
Thanks MissB for the opportunity to try this.

Last night my roommate decided she wanted to try cold brewing a green tea. She was searching through the CaesarsTeas when I told her we could make a tea from a different company if she liked. She was open to doing that but told me she only knows my CaesarsTeas because she was there when I bought them. I started telling her about all the different greens I had and then the swap package from MissB caught my eye. Immediately I knew Fruta Bomba was the perfect tea to try.

Turns out it was a great choice for a cold brew. There was a bit of a vegetal flavor from the base but mostly it was like drinking a refreshing and juicy fruit salad. It was actually so good that we finished the bottle and have already prepped another for later. Thank you MissB for sharing this with me :)

I realized that I forgot to post no. 1’s results from his piano Certificate of Merit exam and now I feel bad about not posting it because (to the extent anyone thought about it at all ;-)) my silence may have led you to believe that he crashed and burned.

Brag starts here:

However, such was not the case. He got all excellents except for in sight reading, where he got a good. And he got a branch honors sticker on his certificate.

So now that I’ve set the record straight. This tea is definitely a step up from the Choconut and a decent flavored green tea, but not very distinctive. It’s one of many tropical fruit flavored greens I’ve had that are solid but not exceptional. So I can’t say I’ll miss it much when it’s gone, which should be fairly soon, because chances are I have another tea with a similar flavor somewhere in my stash. Perhaps even two or three…

Congrats to No.1!

Thank you. :-)

Congrats!!! So, is it going to affect your son middle school choice? We have crazy competition in NY.

__Morgana__

Nah, he’s just going to go to the neighborhood public school (unless he stops learning at it, in which case I’ll have to figure something out). I am thinking about private high school, but it’s hard to know what’s right to do. California public schools have a pretty bad national reputation because there’s no money for them because of Prop 13, but the ones in our town are rated higher than most and they make up for some of the deficit with private educational foundation contributions. But high school I’m not so sure about. There are arguments both ways—that you have a better shot at getting into a top university from a private school because your education is just better all around, or you have a better shot of getting in through a public school if you’re in the top 5% or so of the class because in the private schools everyone is applying to the same places. It’s pretty confusing. I sometimes think about going back to school and I wonder whether I’d be able to get in now, and my university and professional schools weren’t too shabby by any standard. Sigh.

boychik

Top 5% that’s what I heard. My older one just got a letter of acceptance to two great high schools in NYC. We decided on the one which is smaller and close to home. My middle one has to get some news on middle school any day now. So exciting and frustrating at the same time. I can’t afford private school w/ 3. Hoping for the best;)

__Morgana__

Yeah, I keep hoping he’ll settle down by high school. Right now he’s one of those kids that’s very smart but not very careful and doesn’t really see the value of studying. Of course, I didn’t see the value of studying until I was in college, so I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…

This is quite the tropical treat for tonights wet, cloudy evening. I tried this sans additives for the first brewing. I really enjoy it. It is green tea on the forefront, with a papaya twist to the end. A nice sweet ending to an usweetened cup. Quite the tropical flavor. This would be amazing iced. Off to see how the second steep handles and make up a pitcher of iced for tomorrow.

Meh. Not very interesting. As I drink more teas, I’m getting less and less interested in rooibos and tisanes, thus, this “tea” is not working for me. Weak, fruity-ish, rather boring. I’ll finish the cup since I’m sick with the flu and trying to stay hydrated, but it’s not something I’d choose to drink.

Glad I just had a sample of this. Cannot taste the papaya very much, but there’s a definite note of peach in there. Not much else.
