Tencha Mimoto Japanese

We’re going to pretend that the next words off my finger tips are not words typed by me. I.Love.This. Green. tea. yeah that’s right. this is a sipdown and i’m a little sad. The teafairy sent this one my way and i have to say i made it today and started sipping on it, not expecting to really enjoy this. And then suddenly, i was at the bottom of my cup and re-steeping a second cup. Yeah. That’s right. I found a green i really like. It doesn’t have that usual “green, vegetal” taste to it. I can believe it when they say this is a rare tea because the flavour was uniquely interesting. The sad part? It was so delicious i just kind of gulped my way through this and didn’t take very good notes on it, beyond loving it. So it’ll go on to my shopping list for a future tealux order with their black tea that i love…and we’ll give them another shot :) thank you teafairy!

Unfortunately, I didn’t rate this tea before, but luckily, it’s still rather good! The leaves are strangely fluffy, like… dried pork fluff stuff? They’re all ground up, so despite the recommendation on the package to use extra leaf as it’s a fluffy tea, I went with less leaf than normal (3/4 tsp for 8 oz) because I was worried it would be potent like a Japanese gyokuro. I was wrong. It’s so smooth, I clearly could have used more leaf, and will next time, though it was certainly flavourful even with a reduced amount of leaf. The flavour was a bit mariney and sweet, somewhat vegetal. Still tasted fresh, and not like an old green tea, which it is (I’d estimate 4-5 years in my possession).

Anyways, I should have tried this sooner. It’s yummy.

They make matcha by grounding this tea…Funny that I absolutely love it but can’t appreciate a good matcha.

The leaves resemble green party confetti. The little flakes are so light, you need at least 3 tsp to make a flavourful cup. It’s worth brewing in a glass vessel, looks like a shaken magic crystal snowball!

It’s too expensive to make it an everyday green, too bad cause I could drink it a lot more often. I only buy it once in a while and try to drink it quickly cause the fresher the better.

I like that it’s so forgiving for a green tea, not finicky at all. It never goes bitter, it’s pretty neutral, the taste is not overly grassy or vegetal and it’s probably one of sweetest greens I have had.

A green for the non green lover (even Sil and Dexter liked it!!)

It seems hard to find, out of the vendors I purchase from, only a few carry it.

Well I’m all out now…It was a great afternoon tea.

We all know that I don’t normally drink straight green tea. If asked I would say that I like Chinese green better than Japanese green – but that’s more of an impression than actual comparisons. In truth I don’t think I’ve tried enough of either to REALLY know.
TheTeaFairy sent me a sample of this one. She sent me quite a few outside my comfort zone, and as always will at least give it a try.
This is not like any other Japanese green that I’ve tried. This is really neutral – nothing jumping out as offensive or over powering, on the other hand it’s not weak or watery. I have no idea what this is other than a pleasant light cup of tea. I went through 3 three cups pretty much before I knew what had happened. I don’t think I would keep this in my cupboard, but wouldn’t turn down a cup or two of it in the future.
