Zhu Ye Qing (or Bamboo green) is among the most prestigious Chinese green teas. It is produced in E-Mei mountain area of the Si-Chuan Province, south-west of China. The plantations are over 3000 meters above the sea level and covered by thick fog/mist for most of the year. The harvest of Zhu Ye Qing starts from 3-5 days before Qing-Ming season.

Sipdown! 7-something-something. Thanks to Indigobloom for this one. Yeah… it’s odd. I’d be curious to try a fresher harvest, but… yeah this isn’t quite my cup of tea. It tastes a bit metallic, and kind of has a musty vegetal sort of flavour. Not dump-worthy, but not re-steep worthy.

ETA: 784 teas left, because I added the three Amoda ones. Sigh… one day, maybe, if I’m lucky, I’ll hit 750…

I really want to see a picture of all your tea. How do you organize 784 teas? I have a bit over 100, and they take up a full cupboard.

Uh, I wouldn’t exactly call them organized…. :P Things are in boxes by company or by swap, mostly, and they’re kind of piled under/around my desk. I’m hoping to organize a bit more once I move. A lot of my teas (close to half) are small sample sizes, which is convenient. The 52teas/Butiki Teas and other larger packets take up a fair bit of room though.

I bet if you drank just the smallest samples for an entire week you’d be able to knock that number down a lot! But then you wouldn’t get to drink your favourites…

Yep, I definitely could. But I’m in such a crunch with school and other stuff right now, I don’t have time to log things/pay proper attention to them. Once I have time, I should be able to drop that number quickly :)

1759 tasting notes

I had a cuppa this today. It was really odd. But, I have allergies/the flu or something nasty that’s opened up the gateway for a devilthing to take up residence in my throat. Sometimes it tickles me, so that I cough, and other times it just plain hurts. Ah well.
Back to the tea. Well it was certainly not what I expected. It was savoury?! like soup broth. Salty, with a bit of pepper and maybe onion or garlic. I’m sure that can’t be right, so I’ll wait on a rating.
When the cup cooled though, it tasted much more vegetal. Not anything like the “bamboo” I get in my thai food though, for what that’s worth!

But it’s not bamboo! :P It’s just a green tea that for some reason has the name bamboo. Anyways, once I can taste properly again too, I’ll try this as well. For now, though, it looks like I’d be best sticking to (strongly) flavoured teas and/or blends I’ve had previously.

Hmmm apparently it’s supposed to smell like bamboo. Maybe that’s why it tastes funny, cuz I can’t smell??

I did not like this tea when I first tried and wondered how I was going to finish the bag. But it seems to have grown on me, so I will be able to finish it, just not as quickly as some of the other tea’ I have.

The dry leaf smell reminds me a little of spinach.

The brewed flavour is more reminiscent of steamed asparagus. The taste is a little odd, there’s something that I can’t quite place that is throwing the flavour of this askew. It’s ok. Not a re-purchase tea.
