From Sullivan Street Tea and Spice

A bright, chocolaty cup, with a pleasant earthy finish. Tastes like a crisp peppermint patty, A great choice for an afternoon pick-me-up or an after dinner treat (decent amount of caffeine). Great with or without milk.

Thanks to Peach for sharing this tea! The main flavor is mint, and there’s a bit of mustiness in there as well that I suppose is the mate. Unfortunately I’m missing any chocolate flavor. This isn’t one I’d need to have again since there are so many awesome mint teas out there, and this one is a bit muddled and eh.

I was having a “tea shopping day” for my birthday in downtown Manhattan. I had been wanting to stop by this shop for a while not just because of the interesting variety of tea blends, but because I enjoying cooking and can always use more spices.

This was the first one I picked for two reasons, I have recently become a fan of mate tea, I love chocolate and mint, and there is no added sugars or artificial flavors.
The smell alone is amazing. I let it steep for just over 5 minutes, because I prefer a stronger tea.
I was hooked after the first sip! The chocolate taste so real, not like an artificial chocolate or a milk chocolate, but a real chocolate. The mint flavor is definitely stronger than the chocolate (which is good because I can drink it without feeling too guilty about starting my day with a dessert flavored tea) but the chocolate is there in every sip.

Compared to other mate teas I have had, I can taste the mate natural flavor, but more as a complementing flavor, not an overwhelming flavor, and I do prefer this if I am having a flavored blend, if I wanted chocolate and mint without the tea flavor in there, I would have a cookie or piece of mint chocolate.

There is no bitterness, or overwhelming sweetness, making it easy to drink and enjoy.

The only reason I didn’t give this tea any higher is that there is caffeine, so I cannot enjoy as a late night treat or brewed into an ice cream (unless I eat the ice cream for lunch which I am not above doing).

I bought two more teas from them and cannot wait to try them, I will probably be doing that tonight because this tea was just so great.
