From SpecialTeas

Few things go together better than chocolate and mint. We added some nuttiness to this rooibos blend for a fuller, rounder flavor that makes for a refreshing anytime treat. Like the famous candy that comes to mind, our ChocoMint isn’t just for after dinner!

Recommendations: Use 1 heaping tsp. per 6 oz. cup; heat fresh water to a roaring boil; let steep for 5 minutes.

Ingredients: Rooibos, chocolate nut bits (hazelnuts, sugar, cocoa mass, cocoa butter, glucose syrup, emulsifier sojalecithine, flavor), flavor, peppermint leaves, rose blossom leaves
Contains nut products.

I had a pot of this today at our new local tea shop (Yay, we finally got a tea shop here). All of the teas at the shop looked to be from SpecialTeas so I checked when I got home and sure enough, they are (but the prices are almost double at the tea shop, so I’ll still order from SpecialTeas).

This tea is new at SpecialTeas and I remember reading about it a few days ago when I was ordering tea. I was thinking that I wasn’t in the mood for chocolate and the rose petals in the ingredients really scared me off. But, in the tea shop today, they had a smelling station to smell all of the teas and this one smelled great. It also tasted pretty yummy. The chocolate is not very strong, the mint is there just enough to provide cooling on the finish, and it has an excellent nuttiness to it. I think I’ll be ordering some of this at some point in the near future.

*Update – lowered rating after I got some of this at home and the rose petals took over *

This one smelled great in the envelope so I decided to give it a shot. Thanks, Kristin! I tried it plain and then, for fun mixed in Choco-Peppermint Westsoy that I had in the house. It didn’t turn the tea into a disgusting bog, either.
Anyway, this one reminds me of Adagio’s Chocomint green tea, which used to be a favorite of mine until I o.d.‘ed on it. But of course, this one contains overtones of rooibos. I like it, but I think I may be still sick of this particular set of flavors. I actually left the old Adagio tin in the kitchen area of my department in Chicago, and it may very well still be there more 2 years later. (That’s what I do with all tea that I don’t want- bring it to school, leave it near the departmental source of hot water. Hope for the best.)

I liked that one a fair amount, but the rose petals.. bleah.

This is a good after dinner drink. With lots of milk, it kind of reminds me of a Grasshopper. The mint smell is really strong while brewing, but the taste is just right. I did have problems getting the chocolate pieces to melt (even though I used boiling water). I had to put the whole thing in the microwave and stir it like crazy. The chocolate flavor could have been stronger. Prepared with almond milk and stevia.
