From Simpson & Vail

In the northeastern state of Assam in India, along the Brahmaputra River grow the hearty, malty Assam teas. The heavy rainfall and hot, humid day time temperatures in this area create the perfect green house like environment for growth, as well as helping to create the unique taste found only in Assam teas. Their distinct flavor can be enjoyed “as is”; however, Assam teas are often used in conjunction with other teas to create numerous blends, specifically breakfast teas.

The Beesakopie Estate is located in the eastern most region of Assam, closest to the Burmese border, in the Tinsukia district.

If you’re looking for a very malty, well balanced tea with a rapid infusion, then look no further. This tea is a CTC style (cut, twisted, curled) and unlike leafed tea, it doesn’t expand. The tea brews to a deep amber cup that stands up to the addition of milk. A real morning “wake-me-up” beverage!

This is a rich, delicious, malty Assam … and I loved it!

It’s got a good morning kind of GUSTO to it … you know, that extra kick in the butt that we need in the morning sometimes to get our rear in gear? Yeah, this one has that!

It’s a very finely chopped CTC but don’t let that dissuade you … but do let it persuade you to watch how you brew it! The smaller the leaf, the less time it needs to brew because there’s more surface area and the smaller cut to the leaf, the faster it will brew strong to the point of bitterness!

YUMMY! This is the Assam I have been searching for this week! YAY!
This is fairly malty but well rounded from start to finish! It’s a nice straight-up naturally-juicy black tea. It has a good amount of strength but isn’t the slightest bit bitter. I really like this Assam! It’s lovely!

I couldn’t find a tea with & or and, so I went for a sipdown of Simpson & Vail instead. At least its a sipdown, though I’m sure my next S&V order will have this tea in it.
This is still a strong brisk tea with a nice bite to it. Brews up quickly and would make a good travel tea, maybe with a bit of Yunnan to soften it up a bit. It balances the bitterness on a knife edge, I know it’s a sharp taste that will pucker my mouth, and yet I want another sip. At least all the bitter, metallic taste is up front, the finish is malty and nutty.

I’m really not good with CTC style teas. I’m so used to full leaf teas that whenever I use the CTC I always put too much in. Inevitably, the little tea balls all compact and form an impenetrable shell, all the while, coloring my tea VERY strong.

That being said, even strong, this wasn’t a total disaster. It had some bright citrus notes going on underneath it all with some malty notes present as well.

I’ll have to try another round with much less tea. This one is on me. Therefore I’m holding off on the rating as of now.

Bit of a sad sipdown for this one. I fully intended to purchase more, but sadly Simpson and Vail seem to be out at the moment. Hopefully I’ll get my hands on more soon because this is really just a delightful CTC Assam. Simple and malty. Not much else, but sometimes that’s just what you need.
