From Red Leaf Tea

This is one of the most original takes on Earl Grey tea available, Honeybush Earl Grey, takes the classic taste and puts it with a honeybush based tea instead of the traditional black tea. True to its name, this is one sweet tea that takes the addition of bergamot orange perfectly for a fruity and sweet cup of tea that is sure to please any palate. Made with only premium South African honeybush tea and true bergamot the taste is a distinct Earl Grey that will become a staple in your day. Perfect for a treat, or to satisfy the sweet tooth of the sugar lover in your home.

This tea scares me. The floral notes are SO strong in the bag that I’m hesitant to even try it. It smelled great until I got this weird chemical floral note and thought… uh oh. Well, I’ll try it. It’s here. The smell is so strong as I drink it though, it’s a bit offputting. The flavor is predominantly floral, and then it kind of melds into an EG. I kind of wish this was more TARDIS-like… a bit of caramel with zero florals.

Okay, in an attempt to be able to drink this, I added some cream and a drop of vanilla stevia glyercate. Yea, still super floral, although it does mellow it out a bit. I’m going to have to pass this along, because I’m actually having an allergic reaction to the flowers now. Sigh.

1.5 tsp in 12 oz.

I have TeaEqualsBliss to thank for sending me some of this, and I’m thrilled to be trying it. As I am sure you’re all aware, I LOVE Earl Grey, so I’m always happy to try a new variety.

The aroma is quite delightful, smelling of honey, citrus and a hint of flower. The infusion smells like a mellower version of the dry leaf, still quite honey like, but the citrus and floral tones have softened significantly.

The flavor is very pleasant. The honeybush offers its usual honey-like sweetness, and a slightly herbaceous as well as a nutty flavor. The bergamot is citrus-y but less floral than the aroma would have led me to believe. It is a snappy bergamot flavor, bright and tangy.

An unusual yet very enjoyable Earl Grey… great for later in the evening when I want to limit my caffeine intake.

EG and Honeybush – sums it up! :) True to description! I really like the EG with the honeybush, actually…it’s one of the better nontraditional Earls I have had.

That’s an interesting blend, especially with Earl Grey. Cool – I’ll have to try that one.

Always interesting to see what will and won’t mix well with EG.

Sure, there are decaf Earl Greys out there, but for the caffeine sensitive folks, an “O’Doules”-ish substitute won’t do. Especially at night. Most of those still have some caffeine. This may not taste like the sour-citrus Earl to a “tea”, but it offers something unusual; the feeling like your tasting a mint-laced tangerine, dipped in honey, then lit on fire.

Had this tea last night but didn’t get a review it. It really reminds me of the Earl Grey Rooibos from Rishi Teas. Now that tea has been an old standby in my tea cabinet. Not everyone loves Earl Grey but anything Earl Grey to me is like comfort food. Just love it. So back to this tea. It has a strong wonderful Earl Grey aroma and flavour that blends well with the rooibos. Still, I wouldn’t be able to tell this from Rishi’s tea. I am just surprised that anyone could not love this tea. Then again, I LOVE floral and Earl Grey.
