I was skeptical of this based on the name – vanilla and grapefruit didn’t sound like the best combination – but it’s better than I expected. I’m a fan of a grapefruit flavoring and scent. This reads a lot more like a perfume than I would prefer in a drink, and it overwhelms the rest of the tea. I get a little bit of spice in the back of the sip. Something I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy but wouldn’t be mad about having.

Day 4 of the Plum Deluxe herbal advent calendar. I got distracted and ended up steeping this for about 20 minutes. It actually came out fine. What’s most surprising to me is that I’m getting a clear vanilla note, even though there’s no vanilla or vanilla flavoring in the ingredients list. Not the soft, pillowy vanilla of Lupicia’s La Vanille; more like a creamy vanilla. The grapefruit flavor is right on point – fresh and juicy. Somehow the “spiced” part ties the vanilla and grapefruit together in a nice bow. Definitely cinnamon, fennel, and I would have said clove but there isn’t any in here. Maybe I’m just projecting clove into the flavor profile because it’s otherwise such a “winter spice” vibe. This blend is great as a seasonal tea and would probably be great as an iced tea in summer, too. I could see plowing through this pretty quickly.
