This is not my favorite tulsi blend due to the stevia, but with roses and chamomile added to the mix it does seem quite relaxing somehow… and I was just reading tulsi is supposedly an anti-inflammatory so maybe it will be good for my plantar fasciitis – if only I could get myself to drink it every day!

Still struggling with Pf? That’s no fun.

I am curious-Is Tulsi (Holy Basil) similar in any way to Sweet Basil that is used in Italian cooking?

TeaBrat

@Scott – yeah the P.F. is the bane of my existence. It seems to come and go but isn’t ever gone for nearly long enough in my opinion.

I’m not sure how much Tulsi has in common with Sweet basil To me they taste very different, but I assume they must be in the same family of plants?

Scott B

Amy- Sorry about the PF-I had it once for a week or so, but fortunately never had a recurrence.

You would think they’d be in the same family of plants, but not necessarily. I should look it up.

@ScottB- Everything feels creaky when you hit middle age. :-P

Another Jamie tea! I admit, rose teas are growing on me. And this is my very 1st Tulsi tisane so I had to try it.

I bumped up the suggested steeping time a min since I like my teas in a 6oz cuppa but I decided to make an 8oz cup today.

This reminds me a lot of RoT’s Get Relaxed! Except there’s no rooibos- a personal yay for me. The rose is strong, w/o tasting like grandma’s perfume and it is slightly sweet- although not anything close to being dessert like,. juice like, or artificially sweet. I’d definitely drink this again- maybe blended w/ Adagio’s vanilla or cocomint green.

this tea has now become a must in my house.
and i’ve just run out cause i kept giving it out! and now whole foods stopped carrying it!! AHHHHHHHH!!

it’s a nightly ritual – 2 bags in a tumbler for about 6-7 minutes and i’m in heaven.

it’s definitely got a rose taste, stronger than some of the other rose teas i’ve tried in the past, but i believe the tulsi is the main flavor. expect a very earthy, herbal taste. while not particularly sweet, it is very well balanced and has a lovely taste. i usually mix something sweet in my tea, but didn’t need to with this one.

the reason i love this tea is the sedating effect it has. one of the main reasons i got into tea was to find a more holistic approach to deal with stress, anxiety, and insomnia. i’ve tried many teas in hope of getting some kind of relief, without any luck. this tea puts me completely at ease, with almost an euphoric feeling. i recommend it to everybody, but especially to someone who looking for something to help them relax. i finally feel like i’ve found the tea i’ve been searching for.

something to keep in mind, i usually make my tea fairly strong with two teabags, so i imagine that helps with the potency.

I ordered a 3.5 ounce tin of this and got it this morning. I really really wanted to like this after the big success with Tazo “Rest,” but on first sniff and taste, I’m not happy. It smells really really strong and awful. Takes me back to Adagio’s rooibos jasmine. Very perfumy. Even my cat backed away when he smelled it. On tasting it, it tastes pretty similar to the smell but not quite as bad. I’ll give it another try later today but I’m not too hopeful after this.

I just want to try a new tea and actually LIKE it, dagnabut! >_<

I just made a cup of green and my dog backed away from it. Not as fast as he has some others but still, it’s a con for the tea when he won’t sit next to me but chooses the end of the couch instead.

Definitely a red flag when the animals run away. I mean, the reaction was similar to when my first cat sniffed a bottle of nail polish remover. lol

I got this as a free sample, and my first thought was ‘this is going to be horrible’. I’ve liked Tulsi tea in the past though, and used it to help fight outbreaks of the stress. Tulsi is a great Adaptogenic herb. In the pouch I thought: Am I really going to drink something that smells like a Caswell-Massey soap? Apparently I AM that curious.

So, I’m never going to buy a box of this because I don’t really want to drink roses, but it’s not at all unpleasant, per se. I definitely am getting the perfumey rose petal taste while drinking this, but they’re gentler than I was expecting.

In high school I worked for a shop that sold rose petal flavored ice cream. Customers were often curious. I tried it a few times and didn’t think it was terrible. It just wasn’t my thing.
If you think you won’t mind the rosiness, tulsi tea is great for you and this is a great company.

Rose is one of those ingredients that seems to get added to tea all the time and I cannot figure out why anyone wants the rose flavor in tea. Bleah.

Jillian

Personally I think rose can be great in moderation, but it needs something else blended with it to balance it.

Lisbet

I really dislike rose as the dominant taste in teas, but I guess this sample proved that I will truly drink any tea once.

This is a backlog going back to…. somewhere around the end of November. I’m that forgetful…

Anyway, a lovely lady whom I stayed with in a hostel in Alaska gave me a teabag of this, and it looked amazing. Because, you know, it’s from a company whose name involves the words “Organic” and “India” — it’s like they know who I am! If only they also included the words “bhangra,” “evil microbiology” and “thermal underwear,” then they’d really describe me.

Anyway, the teabag smelled floral and rosey right after being taken out of the pouch, so I was a bit worried. I mean, not like gulab-jamun worried, but just a bit eau-de-toilette worried. When steeping, I knew that this wouldn’t taste sweet, so even if I had gulab jamun worries, they were alleviated.

In the end, I actually liked the taste — it was mellow and relaxing. However, the scent was AMAZING. I don’t know, I may have to try this again, since I was running around Alaska and dealing with all sorts of not-pretty things, so this was super-feminine and super-pretty for me. However, this may be a very desi thing, since rosewater and gulab-ish stuff is very popular in general for South Asians. Then again, fried and super sugary things are also very popular, and that’s just too much for me…

Hm. It’s hard to rate this one. I’ve just been talking about other things. I guess I could say I’d get a box or two if it were in the local co-op, but I’m not going to go out of my way to order it online or anything. Though the scent is amazing. It would be wonderful to make bath products out of this tea. I would totally do infused oil with this if I had a source for it.

I dug this out of my tea chest. I have to drink it sparingly because there are no places in my home area that I know of that carry it. It’s what I wanted tonight- soothing, aromatic, healthful. It’s only a little sweet, which is good because I dislike overly sweet things. Something about the earthiness of the tulsi and the floral rose just hits all the right notes some nights.

I tasted this tea last weekend and had to add it to my cupboard ASAP. The rose is present in just the right amount, and there’s a bit of stevia leaf to lightly sweeten the brew. It’s ideal for relaxing with just before bedtime.

This is the first tulsi-based tea I’ve had, and it’s made me interested in trying pure tulsi (holy basil). I think I’ll be adding at least one variety of this herb to my next Upton order.

I was in the mood for a floral tea, so I grabbed this. It is definitely a rose tea so if rose isn’t your thing you probably wouldn’t enjoy this. However, I like rose in my tea! There is a nice, light sweetness that emerges during the sip and lingers for awhile. This tea is very calming and relaxing – I may have to stock up on this.

Blech. It’s not sweet and doesn’t taste like roses. It’s got this weird herbal flavor that I can’t place (but can only assume it’s the tulsi) and don’t much care for. There’s a hint of chamomile, but you have to search for it in the cup. Really wishing I didn’t have any more of this in my stash. Yuck.

I’ve been curious about Tulsi teas. Sorry to hear it was such a bad herbal blend. Glad to know to steer clear!

Jaime

I’ll be very happy to send you a bag or two if you want to try it. From the other reviews on here, it seems to be popular/tasty. Just not for me.

katrinabayonas

It’s WORTH IT!! The taste may not be to everyone’s liking (first time I found it a little strange but it’s grown on me) but even holding your nose and swallowing is absolutely worth it. The benefits are amazing. In every sense. It seems there is nothing it isn’t good for. The immediate benefit for me, who suffers from insomnia, was an uninterrupted, long night’s sleep.

Jaime

Perhaps, but I drink my tea for the taste, not the benefits. I drank almost an entire box of this and played around with the steeping time/temp. It’s just not for me.
