White Nectar Osmanthus Spring

Sipdown no. 73 of the year 2014. It appears there was one bag of this left in both the home and work stash. It was really the BF who sipped this down because he didn’t want to drink the chocolate teas I made this morning. He finds the entire idea of chocolate tea “gross.”

I did have a couple of sips before I gave him the cup and I enjoyed this more than my original rating reflected so I’ve bumped it up some. I am sure I have other teas scented with Osmanthus in my possession and I think I had been waiting to try those to see how they compared, so I rated this on the low side. Unfortunately, I haven’t actually dug around to find those other teas and compare them. But on a non-comparative basis, this is a delicately scented tea that steeps to something with flavor and with lack of plantiness. Since I sometimes find that to be the trade off with white teas—either they’re so delicate as to require me to play find the flavor, or they have an aspect of them that’s rather like the stems of cut flowers after they’ve sat in water for a week—I give this points for being the happy in between.

The tea description evokes thoughts of airy, ethereal, wafty sorts of flavors … but my first whiff of the dry bag reminded me a little bit of the sweet, grainy smell of a bag of cattle fodder in my grandma’s barn. Not unpleasant, but different from what you’d expect. Flavor went a little bitter—my fault for oversteeping, but I did get hints of the light and sweet floral elements.

This white tea blend has an intriguing scent – slightly floral, though not perfumy, and fruity, almost like stewed apricots. The flavour has a natural sweetness to it – particularly as the tea cools – this is one that would be very nice iced I think. I can picked up apricots in the taste too. Altogther it’s a nice, clean, refreshing drink.

I love the floral scent, which is hard to define. Almost a spicy floral — I guess that’s the osmanthus. The taste is a bit different. A fairly subtle but not boring white tea. Delicate. Slight touch of apricots on the aftertaste. Very pleasant.

I enjoyed this, which I was kind of surprising. Normally I like a strong flavored tea- so I typically stay away from whites, but I was feeling adventurous and felt like my afternoon should be accompanied by something light. It didn’t have too strong of floral notes whic I can appreciate, just nice and light, all I can really say :)

Has a fresh, floral crispness that I like very much.

I am very surprised. I do not know what type of flower osmanthus is but I like it. It aroma turns into this apricot kind of smell (this is the closest description i can think of). I cannot taste apricots. It’s flavor is slightly flowery. It is definitely a different flavor profile for me. I will have to try it a few more times before I decide on whether or not I like it. I definitely want to try it cold. I have a feeling that apricot aroma may be more present in its flavor if I were to drink this tea cold.

lovely floral scent, lightly sweet and tart at the same time. Soothing with a plesant aftertaste. The only draw back for me it that it leaves my mouth a bit dry. Brews up a lovely amber color.

Meh. Kind of boring. Bland, no real discernable flavour any which way. Wouldn’t buy again.
