Sip down of my sample from Laurent an Sophie!

I like this even better with a really, really short steep. I steeped it less than a minute. It pairs really well with these caramel sea salt coconut macaroons I’m eating because it’s nice and plain in contrast to the sweet.

Oh, this one is wonderful! Plain teas usually aren’t what I reach for, but I was happy to see a sample of this from Sophie and Laurent in the mail nonetheless. My expectations were that it would be a somewhat standard black tea. It is so much more than that! There is a sweetness to it, and pops of fresh fruit. The maltiness comes through in the aftertaste and it is nice and strong. There is a smoothness to it also. This tea reminds me a little of Kusmi’s St. Petersburg, with all of the sweet, malty and fruity flavors. Very big thank you to Sophie and Laurent for this wonderful little sample! Onto the wish list it goes!

-Dry blend has small black tea leaves.
-Dry leaves smell lightly earthy and malty. Tea liquor aroma is malty with sweet fruit notes.
-Tea liquor is a clear dark reddish brown color.
-Smooth and sweet flavor and finish with fruity notes. Deep malty aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Very good tea. Sweet flavor with a deep maltiness and hints of fruit.

It sounds wonderful! Ceylons are hubby’s favorite black teas, especially low grown.

Shelley_Lorraine

I’ve had a few Ceylons and haven’t yet been impressed. Those that I’ve tried have been kind of blah and I’ve been using them as a base for my peppermint leaves. You make this one sound really good. Maybe I just haven’t tried a quality Ceylon yet :)

Josie Jade

I’m usually not much for plain teas, but this one had so many flavors going on that it was perfect. I am strongly tempted to buy some now!

This is a very smooth, up-quality morning tea with more sharps in its flavor scale than flats. Nice coppery color and taste. Kicks you awake with stylish pointy-toed girl shoes instead of ten-pound army boots.

If you haven’t had a chance to try any of the offerings from the nice folks at Nina’s, you need to. All winners so far!

I seriously need this one!

Veronica

That sounds so good.

How did they do it? How do you get this much flavor from such tiny tiny pieces of leaf? This starts lightly sweet, then passes through green and leafy, on through fruity and wine, down into toasty before ending in a nice touch of bite. It is very smooth – even the bite at the end is not harsh. Just a very nice cup.

Yes! I kept expecting more harshness, but it never came! :-)

Another free sample from Laurent and Sophie at Nina’s Paris USA. This Ceylon tea smells slightly sweet and earthy and Ceylon-y. Ceylon has its own unique smell to me. The tea tasted bold but smooth. There was just a tinge of natural sweetness to the Ceylon. There is some malt to it, but it is not super malty. It did leave the slightest dry feeling in my mouth after swallowing but I would not describe it as astringent at all. Very good Ceylon. It makes me think it would make a great iced tea.

This is a really nice everyday tea with great cherry plum fruit notes and a nice body given to it by the bop nature of it’s leaves. I’m curious as to what estate or region this tea came from as I suspect I would like the one more as I suspect it would be slightly less tannic. However as it is it would pair nicely with milk if you like a sweet fruity tea with milk.

Dry the tea is very fine bop approaching larger fannings, that smell very fruity. My first steep was about 2 minutes at about 96 degrees Celsius. The result was a clear copper red brew that smelled very fruity with notes of plum, very ripe sweet cherry, cocoa and light malt.

The scent translated into a tea with a first note of cocoa and thicker tannic malt supported by strong fruit notes underneath it with more than enough body to support milk. The fruit notes were oddly strongest when hot. Perhaps the fruit would come out more with sugar or a slightly cooler brewing temperature. The tea was only slightly astringent and was pretty smooth for a bop ceylon.

Second steep was for 2.3 minute at around 92 degrees Celsius. The fruit, cocoa and tannic malt notes were still present, but were better balanced. This steep was more astringent.

This was quite a nice tea that I would happily drink again! Thanks again Sophie and Laurent for the sample.

Mmm… I wasn’t sure about this when the sample arrived, because I usually head towards like Earl Grey and English Breakfast when I’m looking for a black tea. After adding my usual 2tsp of raw sugar, this was surprisingly tasty, and I’m glad there’s enough of the sample left to go for another cup!

It’s more sweet than brisk, with surprising fruity notes, but there’s enough bite in this wonderfully malty blend to give you a nice morning hit of caffeine.

This is a finely chopped tea, so the particles have a pervasive way of ending up on the bottom of your cup. Because I’m so picky about textures, this does mean I can’t enjoy the last couple sips.

Other than that, this is quite lovely – and I think I’ll go make that second cup!

Classic straight black tea! Naturally sweet and somewhat fruity. There is a tangy wine-like quality to it. I did not expect much from these fannings, but I was more than impressed. That is what I get for doubting Nina’s! Everything is top notch.

Thanks again for the samples, Laurent :)
