Another sample from lolainred! I’ve heard her talk about this company, so I was glad for a chance to try one of their teas. Unfortunately, I made it in a hurry and I’m afraid I over-steeped it. My cup came out quite grassy and vegetal with a bitter tang to the aftertaste. Not going to rate this one, since I didn’t really give it a fair trial.

Backlog from I don’t know when:

Hi guys! I’m sorry I haven’t been on that much. Rest assured that I’m still drinking tea.

I was looking forward to trying this as I know it’s the base green for JO’s Just Marvelous Mint Green. I’ve found the mint/green blend to taste kind of odd, and I always assumed that it was because of the steeping time involved in the mint.

However, having tasted the base green, I can attest that the weird, chemically, funky flavour I’m noticing is definitely due to the green tea they use, and not the mint.

This is disappointing.

I only have about a spoonful of this left, but I’m going to sip it down soon. Now I just have to steel myself to finish off the mint/green blend.

Cheri

Yeah, it’s kinda weird.

I got this as one of my Kickstarter rewards.

It’s just a green tea. It’s not anything super green or super sweet or anything. It’s just a nice, decent loose leaf green.

Another sample from Just Organic Tea! thank you! One teaspoon of a bunch of teas seems like the best way to get your teas and some reviews out there! This is a lovely green tea – I’m afraid the spices of the others teas might have affected this one, even though I tried to separate the spicy teas from the others as soon as I got them for that reason. The flavor is marine-like with the first sips then gets vegetal. When the cup cools, it definitely seems like there is spice to the flavor though. This one doesn’t seem to get bitter. I left the infuser in the cup for the second steep a bit too long and it still tasted the same as the first cup. A very nice standard green tea! JustOrganicTea.com

MAHVEL BABEE! Sorry, this weekend there is a fighting game tournament (this one is in Chicago) and I am watching the livestream for my favorite game, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Weekends where I can devote my attention to what is the equivalent to my favorite sport make me very happy. Especially when I can fold origami and sip tea while watching…tea, geekery, and crafts, three of my favorite things at once. Get hype, yo.

Today’s tea is from Just Organic Tea, their Just Pure Green, a green tea bio-dynamically farmed in southern India. I had to look up bio-dynamic farming since it was not something I was really familiar with, apparently it is a holistic approach to farming, using things like special manures and composts, along with astrology and burying quartz crystals in the soil. Well, that is certainly an interesting approach to farming. The aroma of this tea is very faint, the leaves have a slightly vegetal and leafy aroma and that is all. What little aroma there is in the leaves is certainly a classic green tea.

Brewing the leaves brings out more aroma, the wake up in the water. The aroma of the wet leaves is quite green, a blend of vegetal notes and a slight citrus finish. It is a very typical green aroma that you expect from a ‘generic’ green tea. The liquid without the leaves is pretty much exactly the same as the wet leaves.

The taste of the tea is probably the most ‘green’ green tea I have ever had. That probably needs some explanation, when I say it tastes like a green tea…not any specific tea, no sencha or bi luo chun, just a generic green tea…this is exactly what comes to mind. A mild vegetal taste with a hint of citrus and a very faint hint of smoke at the finish. Add a little sugar or honey and it brings out latent fruity notes, let is chill and you get a really refreshing vegetation notes. This tea is solid, I would recommend it if you are wanting to take baby steps into the world or green tea, or if you want a good green for making iced tea.

This is just a nice simple green tea. No bitterness or astringency here. Relaxing and enjoyable.

I’ve been fairly impressed with Just Organic Tea’s teas. I did end up funding their kickstarter… mostly for that Charming Chai, so I’m interested to see what the new teas they have added since they shipped these sample packets out, are like.

Just Organic has impressed me so far, I’ve joined the Kickstarter. There’s only 70 hrs left!

This seems a rather delicate green by the brewing instructions (175*, 2-3 min). My kettle is always set to 195, so I just splashed the leaves with some room temp water, and then added my 195* water and brewed as normal. I don’t know if I made it all the way to 2 min though, I was a little distracted while brewing.

This green though, it really IS, Just Pure Green. I think I’ve gotten used to (spoiled by) flavored and blended greens lately. This is a just a really nice solid green. There was no astringency, maybe a touch of bitterness (which I expect out of nice greens). The mouthfeel is full, and it isn’t drying at all. I could do with it being a bit stronger.

Is it phenomenal? No. I’m not even sure it would ever make its way onto a shopping list for me, but it seems like a nice everyday drinker that would work nicely as a base if you wanted to get into blending yourself. Also perhaps a nice intro tea for people that aren’t very used to greens.

I received a sample of this in Just Organic’s sample pack. Thank you

Green tea scares me. I have had way too many bitter cups of green tea that was suppose to be really good that makes me scared to brew up a cup for fear I might have to dump it down the drain. This cup, was awesome. It was everything I hope for in a green cup of tea. This was light, but packed a taste punch, it was not bitter, and it was almost sweet. This is a little sweeter than other green teas I have had, and not as buttery. This was a solid green tea. I am really glad I pulled this one out tonight. Thank you!
