From Harney & Sons

High in the mountains, deep in the mists that surround the Himalayas is Darjeeling ~ “Queen of Teas”. Our Darjeeling tea is a blend of First Flush and Autumnal teas from the best gardens. This mixture yields a light color in the cup – a fragrant “nose”. A great value.

Has a smell like the attic at first…a little bitterness but overall not bad. The aroma in the cup is pleasing. It is muscatel which I’m not exactly sure the definition….but to me that means an aroma of fall leaves….which I don’t think is a bad thing because fall is one of my favorite seasons.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Darjeeling’s and I can’t say this one completely converted me, but I can see its appeal after drinking this. The cup was pleasing. Rich and strong flavors, which I like, and just a bit floral and bitter on the end. I think if this was to join my daily rotation, I would add a bit of honey and it would be perfect.

Yeah, okay, I still am not really understanding darjeelings. Not at all. XD
I steeped this one for the appropriate amount of time and it’s STILL overly strong and tastes like ink…with a hint of malt in the aftertaste. xD I just.. I don’t know anymore haha oy ><

I can’t seem to get into them either. Did you steep at a lower temp? I’ve heard that helps.

Maybe try reducing the leaf as well. I find that doing this often reduces earthy, leathery or harsh and sharp tones in teas. The temp idea is a good idea too. I find that darj. Specifically can have very different characters at different temps.

Ost

I steeped it at 180. Not sure what it says to steep it at, now to think of it. xD
But the last one I had, I steeped it at the time and temp that it said, but it didn’t taste right. Unless they just aren’t for me. :P

yyz

That temp should dfinitely be low enough. Outside of leaf the other thing to experiment with is steeping time. I tend to keep my Indian teas at the sorter end of the spectrum for the most part except for a few exception. Usually between 2.45-3.30. Having said this darj. Or this particular one may just not be for you. One of my favourite teas is a darj.( Lopchu), but otherwise I haven’t gone out of my way to try many:-).

Ost

Interesting…This one came in a tea bag…but good to know next time I try one that’s loose leaf. Thanks for the tips, yyz!

I’ve been appreciating Darjeeling blacks a lot more since I started treating them like green teas. I’m still figuring them out and haven’t sampled a lot, but I definitely don’t dislike them anymore.

Not very impressive to me as far as flavoring. Will probably have to add something to it next time just so I make sure to keep coming back to it so it doesn’t go to waste. Also not a very impressive scent, but I didn’t think the scent was TERRIBLE as other reviews have said. Just not anything special.

Just had a cup of this tea from a sampler pack I bought at Harney’s. sated so-so for me nothing great but not bad. A little bit plain so I added some milk and agave even though it was a pretty light color. I think Darjeeling just might not be my favorite kind of black tea….. ?

This tea was nice and light. Even though the taste was a bit flattish, it is advertised as mellow and light. Perfect for a rainy morning on campus, like today. Would drink again.

This tea has a strong pungent smell, but it has a very light taste. I can taste the blackness of the tea and the orange pekoe. Has a slight after taste, but very good. Cheers!

For a bag tea, this isn’t bad. It isn’t as harsh as one might expect from a bagged tea. I’m not sure I’d ever buy this for use at my house but I’d definitely order it from restaurants that carry it.
