From Georgia Tea Company

Black tea from the Fujian province of China. Golden Monkey tea is hand-processed each spring with a careful plucking of only one leaf and one bud. It is among the finest Chinese black teas available today. The name comes from its unique appearance: the leaves resemble monkey claws. If you enjoy full-bodied teas with an abundance of flavor, we urge you to give this tea a try.

Golden Monkey tea hails from the Fujian province of China, one of its most prolific. This region accounts for one-fifth of China’s total tea output. And the high quality of its teas keeps them in high demand. This region’s exports of tea account for a quarter of the country’s total. Fujian teas benefits from an excellent climate, combining mild temperatures, abundant rainfall and mountainous terrain. It has a long history of cultivating tea: over one-thousand years.

MOVE OVER Adagio’s Fuijan Baroque and Adagio’s Yunnan Jig…Mama’s gotta new bag!!! :) This seems to taste a little bit like both of Adagio’s Teas but better and together…It strange but lovely how it seems to be but it is! This is truly MARVY!

It’s bready/cakey sweetness with a certainly chewiness to it that I can’t get past! YUM. It’s Malty and the warmth lingers well after the sip. This is truly terrific!

GROOVY BABY, yeah! :P

Did I sound too much like Austin Powers in that review!?

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

Why yes…yes you did but it was funny :-)

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

Well, it least it wasn’t a wee bit nutty LOL

-Jessica-

Bready/cakey sweetness is always a plus in my book! =)~

TeaEqualsBliss

LOL @ Rachel!
Jessica…let me see if I can send you a sample in your bag…

-Jessica-

awww, thanks!!! :-)

SoccerMom

Okay Lori and I have been in search of the perfect Golden Monkey tea. How does this compare to Teas Etc and Adagio GM? We like malty.

TeaEqualsBliss

I don’t think I have had Teas Etc but I like it better than Adagio’s!

Stephanie

Bready/cakey/chewy tea?? Yum—sign me up! :)

SoccerMom

Sounds like I am going to have to try it.

TeaEqualsBliss

I think this is going to be another one that won’t last long in my stash! LOL

TeaEqualsBliss

I took this one out of my “cupboard” (only had 1 more serving size left maybe 2) – Hope you all enjoy it – the ones I am sending to!

I’m not really sure what to make of this. Mostly because I’m not really sure how to describe it. Lol.
I keep sipping at it to see if I can figure it out, but my mind draws blank. I guess it’s got a strong malty-ness to it, if I’m figuring what that even means out right. Maybe a bit of woodiness. A strong something taste. Lol.
Strong astringency, especially as it cools.

Bah. I give up! /throws hands in air/ What I do know is that, while it was nice to try, it’s just not for me. I’m just more into fruity/sweet teas in general. Into the swap bin it goes. Lol.

This sipdown (176) was brought to you in part by the lovely ifjuly who surprised me with a bunch of fine samples in February!

And this is a nice, smooth, sweet tea. Yum. A little bready, too?
Not sure how else to describe it. I’m cold and shivery and need to focus on drinking this tea to warm up instead of analyzing while it cools!

Thanks again for letting me try this.

Backlog:

Now, we’re talking. A beautifully rich, flavorful black tea. Lovely notes of cacao and caramel. Nice heft to this tea – something I could start the day with.

This was my tea of choice at work today.
I normally like golden monkey, and I normally like Fujian teas and I liked this one, but I thought it was just ok. I just feel I’ve had better examples of this type. It was ok, nothing really wrong with it – I just didn’t feel it was special. I think I’ve drank some really good black tea lately and anything that’s just “good” it’s quite cutting it.
I think this is a good tea, and I encourage others to try it, but it won’t make my top 10 list.
Thank you so much ifjuly for sending some of this my way.

ifjuly

it’s nice to get to a point where you know you’ve had great tea and can be pickier. (: salut!

:)) It gives me hope that my “I need to try EVERYTHING” phase is slowly fading. As much as I enjoy trying new things, I do feel that I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing some truly AMAZING one. I should spend more time with those special ones.
Of course the problem is you never know when that next special one is going to reach out and grab you. :))

TheTeaFairy

(Don’t want to burst your bubble, but I really don’t think you’re out of that phase yet…just saying)
