From Della Terra Teas

The French griottes—a long stemmed griotte cherry in chocolate—is the inspiration behind this amazing tea. We have combined the taste of a juicy cherry with dark chocolate to create this flavored black tea. Sip it hot or cold; the flavor is amazing both ways, yet different: one more cherry, the other more chocolate. It’s up to you to discover which is which!

Ingredients: black tea, chocolate flavoring, chocolate bits, cherry flavoring and bits

Suggested brewing tips:
- Serving size: 1 level tsp. (~4.75g) per 6oz (~175mL) serving
- Water temperature: 210F (~99C)
- Steep time: 2-3 minutes

2 tsp. of this with 1 cup milk and 1 cup water. No sweetener.

Initially this was just a slightly sweet (cocoa-sweet more than fruity-sweet) creamy latte but as it cooled the cherry turned a touch medicinal. I guess that’s a good reason for me to just drink it faster next time, right?

Also, there is an actual mug with my favorite tea quote on it…and since I broke my DAVID’sTea mug a few days ago I might actually be able to justify getting one.

Hmm, this smells like a chocolate tea. No cherry at all…? Just a bit of a perfumey, possibly floral aroma. The flavour, not surprisingly, is mostly chocolate and perfume. Almost like… rose water. I definitely am not picking up cherry.

I admittedly did just buy this one on a whim (I dislike chocolate-covered cherries, mostly because I dislike maraschino cherries), and although it’s better than it could have been, I was really hoping for some solid cherry flavour! In spite of that though, and the fact that I’ve mentioned that it tastes like perfume, this tea really isn’t so bad. It’s actually growing on me a bit as I sip it, so although I don’t think I’d ever buy it again, I will manage to finish the bag!

Almost the last of this. Next time I have it will be a sipdown.

This is nice and comforting on a day when I haven’t gotten as much done as I would like. I can still taste the chocolate and the cherry, though not as well as before, probably due to age. It also has the slight waxy taste to it that I don’t remember from before. Oh well. Approximately 26 oz of this to drink in the next 2 hours and then hope I don’t have to pee on the way home (1 hour drive).

cherry cough syrup drizzled on inferior quality chocolate? apparently. ick. Not a fan of this one in the least. It’s not a terrible tea but i for sure would prefer to not drink it than drink it since there are so many other teas out there that have better flavour and tea notes to them. Happy to have tried it but that’s about as far as that goes. eesh

I love it when you really don’t like a tea. There is no doubt what you thought and your descriptions are funny. Not that I want you to not like teas, your reviews of them are just too good, though. :)

Sil

Lol I aim to entertain at least. Apparently I can be as funny in person…which I’m not sure I follow but hey as long as someone’s laughing (usually raritea) we’re good.

I usually dial back my dislike as well….I’m much better at explaining why I dislike things than why I like them…probably also why I don’t have favourites. Heh

This was a bit of a disappointment to me as I’m not getting very much cherry at all, the chocolate is present in aroma and lightly in flavor. Eh, it tastes like tea flavored with Nestle Quik. Not sure what I might have done, if anything to mess this one up. Probably my least favorite thing from Della Terra so far. Better with soymilk added but not a big winner for me.

I received this blend in a swap with TheTeaFairy
Let me explain first what a swap with TheTeaFairy means ! I received sooooo many teas, that’s incredible, all in small bags with different coloured stickers, using a colour code for the kind of tea and wearing a diamond or pearl sticker to mention the prefered blends !
Waouh I am so impressed, really.Thank you so much !

So I decided to visit first the orange flower serie, the black flavoured teas and this one first.

It’s not bad but not exceptional neither.
I was expecting cherries I mostly get a chocolate tea.It smells, it tastes chocolate, I am not really able to get cherry.I get something fruity but not cherry.
I think the flavours used here may not be 100% natural, but I may be wrong.
I am happy to have been given the opportunity to taste it, thank you again TheTeaFairy

So happy you liked the package :-)
You are right about this tea, I really liked it though the first time I drank it, but in retrospect, I think I was more in love with the idea of a Griottes tea than the tea itself! I hardly ever drink it now, as I find a chemical taste has emerged more strongly over time.

if you like cherries, you should try the Cerise Noire from Betjeman & Barton it’s from far the best natural cherry tea I ever had, and on a black tea base.
Otherwise, on a green tea base, Sakura 2000 from Mariage Frères is delicious.

Another winner from Della Terra. I don’t think I’ve had a tea from them that I didn’t like.

This tea has everything I like about chocolate covered cherries and makes it work with the tea :) A wonderful dessert tea and a great way to start my vacation.

della terra chocolate tea. pretty much i love them all. i had this and then a lapsang after, and the chocolate scent was still in my head and nose. the della terra chocolate tones linger with me. it’s a specific kind of moment from my youth kind of sense memory thing. hard to explain.

Dustin was so kind to send me a sample of this tea; thanks Dustin!

Years ago I had a cheap and simple chocolate tea. It was not a good experience. It tasted as tea with a bit of cacao powder. Since then I’ve always avoided chocolate teas, untill I recently decided to try Theodor’s The du Loup, which I really liked very much and put chocolate teas back on the my to-try-list.

Like TheTeaFairy, I picked up a hint of sourness in the smell of the dry leaves, so I was a little apprehensive about this one. Based on the smell I definately wouldn’t have bought this. And that is of course the beauty of tea swaps, because once brewed this is een tea that lives up to it’s name. Altough I can’t really discern the cherry flavour, I do get the total griottes experience: the sweet dark chocolate taste with a sense of tart fruitiness. The flavours blend beautifully.

I do wonder if artificial flavouring has been used for this tea. Not that I would mind, but it seems neigh to impossible to achieve this taste with solely natural ingredients. Unfortunately the website doesn’t give any information.

I love cherry teas, they’ve always been among my favorites, but this one was a huge disappointment and is going in my swap box. The scent of the dry leaf is very offputting and once brewed it doesn’t get much better. There is a flavor that keeps throwing me off, I’m not sure if I want to describe it as medicinal, because sometimes it seems almost alcoholic. Either way, it isn’t a very pleasant flavor to find in a tea. The most disappointing aspect, however, is the low quality chocolate added to the blend. Overall I haven’t been a fan of Della Terra’s chocolate teas and this one just leaves me with a similar feeling as the others I have tried.
