From DAVIDsTEA

From your favourite rule-breaking tea company comes an edgy new matcha flavour. We’ve taken the incredibly classic Earl Grey black tea and mixed it with the green goodness of Matcha Matsu green tea. The result is an aromatic blend of bergamot with a light vegetal twist. Would former British prime minister Earl Grey approve? Hard to know. The only opinion that really matters is yours.

What makes it great

The classic Earl Grey is now in a matcha.

Our flavoured matchas are made on a base of Matcha Matsu, so you’re getting all the benefits of the whole tea leaf.

Cane sugar, Matcha green tea, Natural Earl Grey flavouring

How it tastes
Classic bergamot balanced by the vegetal quality of matcha.

2022 Sipdown 166/365!

I thought I’d like this more than the Cream of Earl Grey in a latte, because there would be a stronger EG flavour, but surprisingly, I like the flavour of the cream version better. Really not sure why.

AJRimmer

Ha funnily enough, I wrote the exact opposite review! Though honestly I enjoy both blends quite a bit.

Kittenna

Hahahaha. I admit that I’m not entirely sure that the Cream of EG even tastes quite like an earl grey… but I enjoy the creamy flavour.

Day 7 of 24 Days of Matcha

Normally plain Earl Grey isn’t my thing but I absolutely loved this matcha. It was smooth and sweet but not tasting like there is an additional sweetener added

I enjoyed the DavidsTea matcha samples I tried a few months ago, so I picked this up on sale recently. I love bergamot, so the flavor could be even stronger, but I taste a decent amount of it. Maybe it would be too strong for some people if there were much more bergamot in here. I don’t get much matcha flavor underneath, which is fine. I’m glad I got this on sale because it doesn’t look like this bag will make many more cups (I use a tablespoon for 8 oz of milk). I’ve really enjoyed the cups of this I’ve had so far.

Currently enjoying this matcha as a latte, and spoiler alert… it’s SO good! To me, it tastes almost like a hybrid of a matcha latte & a London Fog, but sans the vanilla. There’s a very distinctive, classic bergamot flavour that runs throughout, in addition to the notes that you typically get from a traditional matcha – a bit grassy, but mostly a light vegetal quality. Ultimately, I really enjoy the 2-for-1 aspect of this tea, and will definitely be stocking up!

I have a Frequent Steeper reward, and am thinking I might use it on this one as the combo of London Fog + matcha sounds so interesting!

It’s definitely worth trying IMO.

Silent Kettle

Ou! :) I love DT’s matcha blends! Salted caramel and maple matcha are some of my favourites! Did you try the cream of earl grey matcha yet? :D

Antonia

I haven’t! And sadly, it’s sold out at the moment. I think it’s probably for the best, because I’m already so in love with the Earl Grey one.

I haven’t had this tea very often since I favor the Cream of Earl Grey version of it, so when I found myself craving an EG style latte this afternoon while at work I thought I’d reacquaint myself with it. I whisked it up and then fashioned it into an iced almond milk latte. It was pretty good and I liked the creaminess of the almond paired with the strong notes of bergamot. However, it’s a stronger level of bergamot overall than I personally prefer in my Earl Grey and about half way through my latte I did sort of find myself wishing I’d opted for my preferred Cream of Earl Grey Matcha instead…

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
