From DAVIDsTEA

Brew the right ching

Location, location, location. It’s what makes this exceptional tea so special – and so sought after. If it doesn’t come from Hangzhou, you can’t call it Lung Ching.Ours is grown in a small, family-run garden in Lanxi, an area specially selected for its mineral-rich red soil. And trust us, these guys are pros. They’ve been making this tea for decades, hand-flattening and drying the leaves in a deep, hot wok. Is it worth the trouble? Absolutely. Each sip is rich, nutty, sweet and vegetal, with note of minerality. Rushed to our shelves right after the spring pluck, it’s quite simply as fresh as tea can get. Here for a very limited time.

Only got a small amount of this one to try as I really wasn’t sure with the description if I would like it or not. But I am glad that Davidstea did get some straight teas in. That was a nice surprise and hopefully it means more are coming? Probably not, but I can hope.

This one I steeped up this morning but I didn’t use super hot water. I had the water sitting for a bit before I finally used it. Anyways, this one is definitely buttery and not really all that grassy like I thought it would be. I could taste the green tea, but it was so mild. It really was the butter that I tasted more than anything, which was good and weird. I thought I was just tasting the butter from my toast, but nope, that was the tea.

I only have done one steeping so far, but I think I’ll try another one before the day is out. Either way, it’s pretty darn good and I loved how light it tasted too. Hoping the second steep is just as good.

Adored this tea. I hope they get more straight greens :)

Considering this is a plain green, I’m actually realised surprised at how much I liked this! I guess it all has to do with the quality of the leaves and proper steeping methods. Of course, it’s expensive and a limited time only thing, so I think my 10g purchase of this will be all I get. Sigh.

I finally got around to make a cup of this.
I will say I was not disappointed with the description vs taste comparison. It has a nutty vegetal flavor just as promised, however I really don’t think I like the nutty/vegetal combination as a matter of personal preference.

I am the first one to review this tea?! What an honor :)!

As soon as a saw on steepster that DAVID’s was coming out with a new straight green tea I got so excited, because it’s been a long time since that happened. When I saw that it’s a super fresh tea and very limited edition, I acted fast: my local DAVIDs shop got their shipment in last night and I got this tea less than an hour ago.

When I smelled the dry leaves, they were grassy, buttery, and fresh. The leaves are beautifully long and a nice medium green and look so good and fresh. Lovely. I steeped it in my steeper to let the leaves really soak and expand in to the water, and the smell of the leaves soaking was the same as the dry leaves.

The taste of the tea is grassy, a bit sweet and a bit buttery. It’s really fresh, light, and without bitterness. The first cup I made was using 175 degree F water (my standard temp for green tea) but my second steeping I used 185 F water, which is actually what’s recommended for this tea. Using the hotter water, the colour of the tea was noticeably a bit stronger, and there was more of a grassy-mineral taste. No bitterness, but I think I prefer the first cup made with the lower temp.

Overall this is a lovely tea and I’m glad I picked it up before it went away.
