From California Tea House

For those down-home, fresh fruit lovers in need of a little spice, we created our delicious Apricot Chai. We start with fine, full-leaf black tea and add real peach and apricot preserves. Next we mix in a handful of citrus peels and vanilla bean bits and top it off with fresh-cut ginger root and cloves for added zing. It’s amazing!

I found this in a box of teas from work. I thought I had either lost it or finished up the pouch, so I was glad to find it.

Over two years old, and still working on the same pouch – but it still tastes as yummy as it did the first cuppa I had. (Even more proof that you don’t necessarily need to use tins.)

The apricot taste is so delish! That’s a flavor you wouldn’t think would be all that strong/bold, yet this blend really packs a punch.

Tastes like happy! :)

TastyBrew

Sounds like a weird combo! Is it more fruity or spicy? Or both?

KeenTeaThyme

It’s more fruity, but there is a hint of spice. It’s nice.

This is a tasty apricot black tea but I’m not getting much of a chai flavor from it. I can taste a the very natural apricot flavor, bold black tea body, and just a bit of ginger for the finish. I’m not tasting the spiciness of a chai.

I have a sample of this from teaviews.com, haven’t tried it yet, though.
From reading the description on their website, I wonder if they were going for a traditional spicy chai? Chai is a hard word to define, especially since in other countries chai just means tea. What Americans call chai is actually masala chai. It sounds yummy nonetheless, though. I absolutely love apricot/peach flavors.

My sample came from the same place :) I read the description as well, and I get that they were not going for an over the top “spicy chai” or masala chai. Because CATH this is a San Diego based company so I don’t think they mean simply tea when they say chai, and they did add ginger and cloves to the tea which are traditional chai spices. It’s a good tea and this was just my casual first impression. I look forward to seeing what you think of it when you give it a try.

Ashley, I hate that we can’t edit our comments! There are a couple unnecessary words there in the middle, but you get my drift :)

I had a sample of this a while back, I agree, not a traditional chai but I really enjoyed it. Actually one of the best Apricot teas I had tasted.

Another sample from KeenTeaThyme (KiTT), tried this with my dessert after Easter dinner yesterday and it was ok. The taste was great….the apricot flavor and aroma was there, but there was something missing here for me. I don’t think there was that spice taste that I’m used to with most Chai teas. In fact I couldn’t really taste it at all. Oh well.

So I love me some chai. In pretty much every form. This caught my eye as a type I have never tried, and I admit I was surprised. It has a very strong apricot flavor, and is rather tasty. However, much to my surprise, there was very little to no chai spices to be found! No cinnamon taste, which is my favorite! As this stands, it is a tasty flavored black tea. But it would be SO much better if it were spicy, like a chai should be.

Recommended as a flavored black…not recommended as listed.

I don’t drink a lot of ‘flavored’ tea because I usually find the flavors to taste fake, but my curiosity got the best of me after reading California Tea House’s description of this one. I don’t know if this has any unnatural flavors or not, but if it does, I can’t taste them. This tea is truly delicious.
