So Marika and I each surprised each other with Advent Calendars this year – I got her the one from World Tea House and she got me the Brutaliteas one. We were a little worried about if it would arrive on time since they only shipped out the order a couple days ago (which they were very transparent about – we took the risk anyway) but it arrived this afternoon so I finally have all of my advents ready for tomorrow!
In addition to the advent she ordered a bunch of big sizes for herself of some of the favourite teas from our last order a couple months ago and then a few other neither of us had tried yet – which she kindly gave me samples of so I could try them too! This was one of several – though I finished off the sample she measured out for me by making a large pot of it to sip on throughout the afternoon.
The blackberry flavouring is really nice: sweet and a little bit syrupy but still pretty natural tasting and not overly acidic. Really distinct blackberry, too! I love how much of the black tea base comes through since the blend itself is so simple and restrained – it’s just blackberry with brisk tea and almost a burnt sugar type of finish that, while I’m not totally sure where it comes from, really works with the blackberry. It’s like the hard shell of a creme brulee – just no custard. Very enjoyable!

That sounds nice—the blackberry teas that have crossed my palate have always been tart and doctored with hibiscus. I want blackberry cobbler!
It’s too bad that hibiscus is often the default for “tart berry” flavouring. This tea is proof right here that all you need is the right (nippy) base :)
