Fox Tail 2015 Spring Feng Qing Golden Tip Dian Hong Black Tea

This is a lovely surprise from a teafriend, and it made for a wonderful morning, so thanks!

It’s gorgeous. The smell of the brew is earthy, a little cocoa, malt, and flowers. The aroma and the initial flavor reminds me a lot of the simao spring tips from Yunnan Sourcing.

The brew itself is brown sugar, molasses, maple, floral, earth, malt, and a little fruit. It’s complex, sweet, and oh so comforting.

My first try of Bitterleaf, and oh so lovely!

I’m giving this a slight bump in rating. This morning it seems extremely chocolatey with almost coffee like notes. That is something I can absolutely get behind. Really really delicious this morning.

Well, I know I probably shouldn’t be drinking caffeine this late at night but I’ve been craving black tea all day and I only just had the chance to make myself a cup…

Mmm! This is really good! Honestly, I’m a little tipsy and I know my observations wont be the most astute but the creamy, decadent chocolate notes I’m getting from this tea are just divine. Seriously; the whole thing is rich fudgey chocolate from top of the sip all the way until the brief, playful aftertaste. I can’t wait until I get a chance earlier in the day to actually steep this Gong Fu because I imagine watching this lovely chocolate flavour evolve over infusions is going to be a real treat!

Mmmm, this is a delicious smelling tea. The aroma is almost like baking sugar cookies or honey buns.

The flavour is good as well, sweet Yunnan black tea with a thicker mouth feel. The aroma translates fairly well into honey buns but there isn’t really honey notes here—more of just a general sweetness. Lol, does that even make sense?

I actually had time to gongfu brew this today but I used my mini teapot rather than my gaiwan. I always burn my hands when I use it. I need to get an “easy gaiwan” I think. Where is a good place to get those? I saw some really nice ones on teawarehouse.

Subsequent infusions lost a little sweetness but we’re still delicious. The brew also got darker as I steeped in into the afternoon.

The teas from bitterleaf arrived for me to add to the part 2 box? haha This one smells quite lovely, different from other yunnans that i’ve had – maybe slightly sweeter? I brewed this one western as i won’t have a huge amount of time for gonfu today, and i’ve got those picked out already. However, i’ll be resteeoing this a few times to see what happens. Brewed, there’s a slight smell of wet dog that’s only now a little damp…or I’ve got puppies on the brain haha. that being said, i like this one. there’s an almost baked good sort of flavour hanging out in the background. sort of bread-y but not quite. It’s a sweeter tea, but not SWEET. this is also a more mild tea, so it’s not what i’d call a breakfast, WAKE UP NOW sort of tea. This would make a great leisurely sipping in the afternoon sort of tea. yeah. this is interesting. Different from other’s that i’ve had of a similar variety.
