Constant Comment

Ah Constant Comment, like many people here I grew up with it as well. But sadly it is not a fond memory. I really can’t stand orange flavoring so I admit I’m very biased. It smells like old clove that’s been sitting with Christmas tree ornaments all summer and it doesn’t taste much better. It does taste very winter time and is the closest I’ve gotten to mulled tea but I think I’ll try one day to make my own then to return to this. Another trip down memory lane but I’ll skip it for now.

I am not really sure, why I am drinking this tea, but it was something different, which I have not had in a long time.

I was super tired yesterday and this was my work tea. THERE IS JUST SOMETHING SO COZY about constant comment. Makes ya feel good inside.

The first thing I think of when I pull this tea bag out of the wrapper is pomanders, which is certainly not a bad thing. Because it is a black tea with the many spices, which remind me both of Chai and Earl Grey teas, I felt the need to add milk as well as the usual sugar sweetener. This tea is rather good. Of course, I managed to get my hands on some because we’ve had a few bags wrapped up in a Ziploc (with a few other kinds of tea) in the cupboard for a few years now. I’ll be anxious to see the difference between these older tea bags and a fresh box, as I do plan on purchasing some when my supply of free, aged Constant Comment tea bags runs out. (And because it’s free, I don’t care how “aged” it might be. It’s still good.)

Up date (1/17/2011): So I picked up a fresh box aver the weekend, as I had finished off our “aged” bags of Constant Comment. Wow! The citrus flavor was even more apparent, and that wonderful clove aroma was even stronger! Fantastic!

Another vote for the nostalgia rating. I still like it and it is my go to tea when I have a cold because of the comfort factor and I can still taste it. I prefer the loose but due to the spices I don’t taste the paper when prepare with the bags

A classic bagged black tea. Orange and spice make it inviting and fragrant. I’ve been drinking Constant Comment since I could boil water on my own.

Probably my favorite bagged tea; like many others have said, I grew up on it. I’ll have to try the loose leaf version one of these days. Brewed 16oz with two tea bags and added a bit extra honey. The result was fabulous. The perfect comfort tea and a great way to start my day.

Another comforting tea, this time from my childhood. One of the teas my mom always had around, and one of my first exposures to tea. This is a guilty pleasure, purely because of sense-memory. I know there are plenty of other, better blackteawithorangespice combinations out there, but…it’s kind of like Alpha-Bits. Older and presumably wiser, I know that I don’t want to know what’s in those marshmallow chunks…but they still taste good as they chalkily deliquesce in my mouth, you know? ;)

It’s been a very long time since I had a Bigelow tea. They have a really bad rep with some people (almost as bad as Lipton) so when I found my one lonely little Constant Comment tea bag in my tea cupboard that I stole from my last job’s break room, I was a little hesitant at first. I really don’t know what all the hate is about. It reminded me of my Twinings Pumpkin Spice Chai and I regret not waiting until the cold weather came before I had this. It’s a perfect autumn/winter, cold-weather, tea. Not as good as my Twinings one, but I would definitely drink this one again.
