From Arbor Teas

Our organic Genmaicha (pronounced GEN-my-cha) offers a unique savory, toasted flavor and aroma with light body and limited bitterness. It consists of a mixture of organic green tea (“cha” in Japanese) and organic toasted brown rice (“genmai” in Japanese). This traditional green tea is very popular in Japan for everyday use. Unlike many “Japanese” green teas available in the United States, this organic Genmaicha is actually grown in Japan.

Sustainability is a cornerstone of Arbor Teas’ business philosophy. In addition to offering an exclusively organic selection of teas, they recently became the first tea company to offer their whole catalog in 100% backyard compostable packaging. They’ve also carbon-offset the entire supply chain of their products, from origin to the customer, making Arbor Teas the greenest option for Earth-conscious tea drinkers, and one of few tea companies recognized by Green America.

Travelling Tea Box C

Backlog from yesterday. I really enjoyed this genmaicha! The base wasn’t too see-weedy and the roasted rice didn’t over-power the green base like in some genmaichas. I shared with my co-worker, but thankfullly no fights this time.

I was in need of a mid-morning snack and cuppa and the genmaicha was on the counter in “comforting standby” mode so I went for it.

I steeped at a slightly lower temperature this time and more of the vegetal green came out to play as a response. Still nice and light and toasty.

The toasted rice tastes a bit metallic to me and I don’t care for vegetal greens.

I’m totally new to the world of Japanese green tea, let alone ones that are this unique. I bought a sample of this and was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It has such a comforting and toasty flavor. Something you really have to try to have an opinion on. I probably won’t be ordering this again but I’m so glad I tried it. My bag leaned more on the side of brown rice than tea leaf, which probably wouldn’t work as well with a lower quality tea. The tea is incredibly fresh. This stuff smells like it just came off the tree. I’ll be savoring my sample size bag.
